World of Warcraft's Infinite Dragonflight Seeks Chaos Above All Else
The Infinite Dragonflight originated from the corrupted remnants of the once noble Bronze Dragonflight. These former guardians, once dedicated to the protection of time, have now succumbed to madness due to the corrupting influence of time itself. The very leader of the Bronze Dragonflight, Nozdormu the Infinite, has tragically witnessed numerous timelines in which he falls victim to insanity, thereby leading to the ultimate destruction of Azeroth. In the past, brave players have managed to halt the Infinites' malevolent plans across various points in time. However, it is only recently that the true nature of their devious schemes has been revealed. The Infinite Dragons' objectives have evolved throughout the years. They have previously targeted significant moments in World of Warcraft's history, aiming to permanently alter the course of events. The Culling of Stratholme, Thrall's escape from Durnholde, and even the defeat of Deathwing are among the events that these dragons have sought to reverse, albeit with limited success. Given the diverse nature of these events, it raises doubts about whether the Infinites have a unified goal.
There have been implications that Nozdormu's alternate identity, Murozond, as well as the rest of the Infinites, are influenced by the Old Gods. However, their allegiance to the Void does not always align perfectly. While preventing certain events in Warcraft III may not directly benefit the Old Gods, it does serve the interests of their mortal enemy, the Burning Legion.
For instance, if Medivh had been stopped from opening the Dark Portal, the orc invasion of Azeroth would have been averted. However, this would have left the planet vulnerable to a direct invasion from the Legion. Without the orcs, Azeroth would not have been able to triumph in the events of the Third War. It is unclear why the Infinite Dragonflight pays such close attention to these outcomes when they could instead focus on achieving more direct victories for the Old Gods.
The dragons' motives can be attributed to their madness. Despite being coordinated and cunning, the Infinites have one singular goal: to bring chaos. Their focus is not on how the world will end, but rather on disrupting the natural course of events by targeting crucial moments in the timeways. However, in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, their intentions seem to have become more refined.
Led by Chrono-Lord Deios, the Infinite Dragonflight has recently formed an alliance with the Primal Incarnates, specifically Iridikron. The Incarnates aim to cleanse Azeroth of Titan influence and are willing to use any means necessary, including Void magic. Deios is aware of Iridikron's true desires and willingly assists, as their shared objective revolves around spreading chaos and causing destruction.
The Infinite Dragonflight doesn't care how Azeroth ends, whether it's destroyed or taken over by darkness. They only care about making sure there is nothing left for the Titans to come back to. While it may not be satisfying for the bad guys to simply want chaos, it does make their actions easier to understand.
Players don't have to question if the Infinite Dragonflight is secretly a hero, they can focus on helping Chromie stop their plans. Eventually, Chrono-Lord Deios is killed and the Infinites suffer another defeat, but it's unclear if they're gone for good. After all, if there are infinite timelines, there will always be Infinite dragons.
