Highlights

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allows players to respec their Pokemon's stats using in-game item called Mochi.

The DLC offers various versions of Mochi that enhance specific attributes, such as attack and HP, along with a Fresh-Start Mochi that allows for a reset of base stat points.

The Fresh-Start Mochi is a game-changer and proves useful for training challenging Pokemon, while earning Mochi is fairly simple through a mini-game.

During the August 8 Pokemon Presents event, it was revealed that the Area Zero DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will offer players the opportunity to modify their Pokemon's stats. This exciting news was accompanied by the unveiling of four new Pokemon from the DLC packs and other exciting announcements related to the beloved franchise. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion, which was first announced in February, is divided into two parts and aims to introduce a diverse range of content to Game Freak's latest RPGs. Throughout the year, Nintendo has been gradually sharing information about the Scarlet and Violet DLC, devoting a significant portion of the recent 35-minute Pokemon Presents broadcast to these highly anticipated expansions.

The livestream showcased a new feature in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero that allows players to modify their Pokemon's stats. This can be done by using Mochi, a new in-game item inspired by a Japanese rice cake made from mochigome, a type of glutinous rice. Mochi will be obtained as a reward for playing the Ogre Oustin' minigame in the Kitakami region, which players can explore during a school trip in The Teal Mask DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Players will have access to various types of Mochi through Ogre Oustin', as revealed in the recent Pokemon Presents event. Each variant of Mochi will provide a specific stat boost: Muscle Mochi enhances a creature's attack, Health Mochi increases its HP pool, and so on. The DLC will also introduce Fresh-Start Mochi, which can reset the base stat points of any Pokemon that consumes it. This enables players to finely tune their creatures' builds and respec them as desired.

The stat-boosting cakes will be helpful in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but the Fresh-Start Mochi will be a game-changing addition for training difficult Pokemon. Earning them should be relatively easy during the Ogre Oustin' mini-game, which involves popping balloons with forgiving time windows.

It's uncertain at this time when The Teal Mask mini-game will unlock. Fans will likely have to wait until September 13 to find out, when the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is set to release. Meanwhile, players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can receive a free Mew by using a new Mystery Gift code, valid until mid-September.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
