In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players are faced with the challenging side quest called "The Cold Endurance Contest!" Your objective is to endure the freezing conditions of a cold desert night by standing on a small pillar. However, there's a catch - our protagonist, Link, will have no clothing on and must find creative ways to stay warm.
Luckily, Link has several options at his disposal to maintain his body heat, making this seemingly daunting task surprisingly manageable. This guide will provide players with essential tips and strategies to help them stay warm throughout the night and successfully complete the side quest.
Cold Endurance Contest! Quest Location
The side quest "The Cold Endurance Contest!" in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be found at Mount Granajh in the Gerudo Canyon region. The exact location can be reached by launching from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and gliding southeast to the mountain. Completing the trip may require a fully upgraded stamina meter and the assistance of the Wind Sage Tulin's gust ability.
Alternatively, players can glide over to the East Gerudo Sky Archipelago from the tower and use a Zonai Wing vehicle to reach the mountain more easily. The closest shrines to the mountain are the Kitawak Shrine at the base of the mountain or the Siyamotsus Shrine in the sky if it has already been unlocked.
There will be an old man named Rahdo with a small camp at the peak of the mountain. Talking to him will trigger the Cold Endurance Contest side quest.
Cold Endurance Contest! Quest Walkthrough
In the challenging desert terrain, Rahdo presents an arduous test to daring players who must brave the freezing temperatures through the night. Link, our adventurous hero, must contribute 50 Rupees to participate, however, there's a major twist; players are forbidden to wear any attire or armor. Additionally, they must remain positioned atop a petite pillar throughout the entire trial, refraining from contact with the ground.
Wearing cold-resistant armor like the Snowquill Armor set is not allowed under the no-clothes rule, making it challenging to overcome the cold. However, there are alternative methods to endure the cold night. These include consuming food with cold-resistant properties, starting a fire on a small pillar using wood and flint, or attaching a Ruby to one of Link's weapons and keeping it equipped. If one manages to survive on the pillar from 8 PM to 4 AM, Rahdo will reward them with 100 Rupees and present a second challenge.
