Nightdive Studios, known for their high-quality FPS remasters and the System Shock remake, is bringing a remaster of the classic Star Wars game, Dark Forces, to current platforms. Released in 1995, Dark Forces broke away from the movie's main storyline and delved into the expanded universe of Star Wars, following the adventures of Kyle Katarn, a Rebel Alliance mercenary. With its introduction of the Star Wars franchise to the FPS genre and its standout boss fights, Dark Forces quickly gained acclaim as one of the top Star Wars games of its time. Though the original game can still be played today through ports like Steam, this upcoming remaster holds promise for an enhanced gaming experience.

Nightdive Studios has announced the remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces, a game that previously could only be played in 4K with a mod. The remaster, created using Nightdive's Kex Engine, will offer various improvements such as modern controls, 4K resolutions, advanced 3D rendering, widescreen support, and running at 120 FPS. The remaster will be available for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, with a price range of $20 to $30. Larry Kuperman from Nightdive Studio stated that the team's aim is to capture the nostalgia of the original game while making it more accessible. Although no release date has been confirmed, more details will be revealed later this year.
