Moldugas are a fearsome foe in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, known to strike fear into even the most experienced players. While some enemies like Lynels can be taken down with reliable strategies, Moldugas require a bit more finesse to defeat. In this guide, we'll show you how to locate and beat these formidable creatures.

WANTED: Molduga Quest Location

However, taking on the Molduga in Tears of the Kingdom can be just as challenging as facing the Gleeok, if not more so, if Link is unprepared. The Molduga presents a unique battle that requires a different approach without the use of Link's Bomb ability. Yet, with careful planning, proper tools, and effective strategy, players can easily complete the WANTED: Molduga bounty quest.

Looking for a thrilling adventure in Breath of the Wild? Look no further than Molduga, a giant sandworm that can be found in Lookout Landing. To encounter this formidable foe, players must first complete all of the introductory quests for the Purah Pad. Once that's done, Regional Phenomena will be added to your quest book and you can make your way to the Emergency Shelter in the heart of town. From there, prepare for an epic battle against one of the game's most fearsome creatures.

Speak with the monster control crew members and Zonai researchers stationed below the Emergency Shelter to gather intel. The captain of the monster control crew can provide bounties for defeating monsters in Hyrule. During your conversation, you'll discover the presence of a Molduga in the East Barrens of the Gerudo region. Although its location is marked on your map, navigating through the Gerudo Desert during a storm may prove challenging. It may be more efficient to travel to the Gerudo Skyview Tower and jump directly to the marker.

How To Beat a Molduga in Tears of the Kingdom

Approaching the East Barrens, spotting the Molduga may prove to be a challenge unlike other world bosses. It can hardly be seen unless it jumps out of the sand from a distance. Look for movement beneath the sand to locate the creature's whereabouts as Link gets closer. It is important to maintain high ground away from the sand when not attacking, as the Molduga can emerge out of nowhere and inflict significant damage to Link's Hearts in a single attack. In Tears of the Kingdom, defeating Molduga is more challenging than in Breath of the Wild due to the limited access to explosives. However, players can still use Zonai Time Bombs to serve the same purpose, although it may be a bit more difficult to handle.

When facing the Molduga, players can utilize Time Bombs to their advantage. By deploying one of these explosives at the right moment, the beast can be blasted out of the sand. However, be wary as the Molduga may consume the Time Bomb if it is placed directly in its path, similar to the behavior of Dodongos in Ocarina of Time. Alternatively, players can also use Bomb Flowers attached to arrows to achieve a similar outcome. However, precise timing is required as the Molduga must be hit while it jumps out of the ground in order to be incapacitated.

If you find yourself facing a charging enemy, there's no need to panic. Instead, quickly sprint in the opposite direction. As long as Link keeps running, he should be able to avoid getting hit by the charging enemy. Once he's at a safe distance, he can turn around and use ranged attacks to retaliate. It's worth noting that movement speed buffs can be helpful in these situations.

As Molduga's health decreases, it becomes less hesitant to show itself. It will still be zipping around, but this time, it won't completely disappear under the sand. This presents a great opportunity for Link to deal some serious damage. Keep a close eye on its movements and use either Zonai Time Bombs or Bomb Flowers attached to arrows to launch the Molduga into the air.

Alternatively, if you have completed the Lightning Temple, Riju's sage ability can be used as a substitute for Bomb Flowers. It's another effective way to blast the Molduga out of hiding.

To deal maximum damage to a Molduga, switch to a heavy, two-handed weapon with a high attack stat once it surfaces. Utilize the charge attack of these weapons to hit the enemy multiple times in quick succession. Alternatively, attaching a high-attack material to a Zora-type weapon, such as a Spear, and activating Sidon's sage ability while wet can double the weapon's overall damage. With a fused material of at least 20 attack, execute the multi-strike charge attack or Flurry Rush ability to quickly defeat the Molduga.

Defeating Molduga can yield valuable rewards, including a Chest and a selection of potent ingredients for Elixirs or weapon fusing. Among these are Molduga Guts and Fin, as well as the formidable Molduga Jaw. In addition to these drops, each Molduga chest may contain a variety of weapons, shields, or bows. Once a Molduga has been defeated in the East Barrens, players can turn in the bounty to the captain at Lookout Landing for a reward of a Silver Rupee, valued at 100 Rupees. Alternatively, the captain can provide information on other world bosses, such as Hinox or Talus, for those seeking further challenges.
