Discovering the Secrets of the Akkala Ancient Tech LabIn The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players will encounter two significant research facilities – the Hateno Village Research Lab (also known as the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab) and the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. While the former is relatively easy to locate, the latter poses more of a challenge. But for those who manage to find it, the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab holds a trove of secrets waiting to be uncovered.
What's Inside The Akkala Ancient Tech Lab?
can be found in the northeastern region of Hyrule, where the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab is located. However, visitors may notice a difference from its depiction in Tears of the Kingdom. Robbie, the former resident of the lab, has now relocated to Lookout Landing and Hateno Village. As a result, a new group has taken over the lab and offer players the chance to obtain two useful rewards.
The Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, formerly a hub for Guardian and Ancient Tech-related purchases, now lies in disarray. Although Robbie is no longer present, Link can still receive an upgrade to the Purah Pad with the Sensor upgrade from Hateno Village Research Lab and a trip up north to the Akkala lab. The Traveler Medallion upgrade awaits.
The Traveler Medallion is an incredibly valuable tool that allows Link to teleport back to a pre-determined location in the vast world of Hyrule. While it's especially helpful for navigating the heights of Sky Islands in case of a mishap, there are myriad other benefits to obtaining this upgrade.
After defeating the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab's Yiga Clan intruders, players will encounter a distraught fashion designer named CeCe. The designer was abducted and coerced into creating clothing for the clan. As a token of gratitude for rescuing him, he will gift Link with a Yiga shirt - a crucial component of the Yiga Armor set. When worn together, the entire set will make the Yiga clan members amiable towards Link, similar to how donning a Bokoblin mask can disguise Link from Bokoblins.
Akkala Ancient Tech Lab Location
Located just north of the East Akkala Stable and to the east of Malanya, the Horse God, the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab can be accessed by taking the east road from the Stable and heading north to coordinates (4482, 3107, 0234). Visitors should be cautious as there is a sign at the main entrance warning that only members of the Yiga Clan are allowed beyond that point.
After entering the Yiga Clan hideout, Link is immediately confronted by members who question his attempted sneakiness. The screen fades to black and when it returns, Link finds himself face to face with a Yiga Footsoldier and a Yiga Blademaster. Even if Link manages to enter unexpectedly or quietly, the Yiga Clan members will attack him on sight. However, there is a specific spot in Depths where Link can climb out and emerge in the midst of the Clan members.
To handle the regular Yiga Clan Footsoldier, it's recommended to use heavy, slow-swinging weapons to knock them back before they can teleport away. Their fast attacks can catch players off guard, so it's important to keep a watchful eye. On the other hand, the Blademaster poses a greater challenge with stronger and faster attacks that follow a different pattern. A shield is crucial for defense, and players should keep an eye out for opportunities to use slow-motion aiming with the bow, such as by jumping and opening the paraglider mid-air.
One effective method of dealing with Yiga Clan members is to take advantage of thunderstorms. As they are also susceptible to the elements, if Link is not equipped with any metal items during a thunderstorm, the Yiga Clan's weapons will continuously attract lightning strikes until they meet their demise from the forces of nature.
After defeating the Yiga Clan, players can find the Travel Medallion Prototype and the Yiga Clan shirt from Konba in a chest inside. Additionally, there are other valuable materials to collect, but the true gem lies on the wall. At the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, a large map highlights the locations of the Yiga Clan's hideouts. Players can snap a photo of this map or refer to the one above to discover the remaining hideouts and complete their Yiga Clan set. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be played on the Nintendo Switch.
