Weary travelers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are always grateful when they come across a stable where they can rest and take care of their horses. Stables become even more important when they provide shelter from the harsh weather conditions caused by the Regional Phenomena. One such location is the Snowfield Stable, which offers players an escape from blizzards in South Tabantha Snowfield.
To embark on the quest "A Picture for Snowfield Stable," players must first clear the Wind Temple and complete the main story quest Tulin of Rito Village. If players have not yet finished this temple in Tears of the Kingdom, they can still interact with the frame, but the stable keeper will not yet offer this quest.
A Picture for Snowfield Stable Walkthrough
The South Tabantha Snowfield in the Hebra Mountains region is where you'll find the Snowfield Stable, situated at coordinates (-1641, 2566, 0233). As expected, the weather in this area is quite chilly, but there's no need to worry since you can easily acquire the Archaic Warm Greaves to keep warm and avoid any cold-induced damage. If you need to quickly travel, the Orochium Shrine is the nearest option, conveniently placing you just north of the Snowfield Stable.
Inside the stable, players will come across a wooden photo frame adorning the interior wall, similar to the ones found in other stables across Hyrule. Upon clearing the Wind Temple, players can interact with the frame to initiate a necessary conversation with the stable’s keeper, Varke. This conversation will mark the beginning of the "A Picture for Snowfield Stable" quest.
Varke expresses his desire to display a painting of a "giant bird with wings outstretched" that can be seen soaring above the Hebra Mountains. He suggests a specific location, the cedar tree on Talonto Peak, as the best vantage point for capturing this majestic bird. However, the bird is only visible during non-snowing conditions, thus making the completion of the Wind Temple prerequisite before embarking on this side quest.
Talonto Peak is situated to the direct west of the Snowfield Stable, deep within the Hebra Mountains. It can be found northeast of the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower, which makes the tower the most optimal spot for fast-traveling and gliding towards the peak's northeastern side. The surrounding area experiences significantly colder temperatures, so it is advisable for Link to bring consumables that provide Cold Resistance or to wear armor that is more suitable for such conditions. Given its great altitude, players should remember to utilize Tulin's Gust ability in order to reach the summit without descending too much and having to do more climbing.
Once reaching the summit, players can take advantage of the surrounding updrafts to effortlessly soar towards the cedar tree specified by Varke. The tree can be found at coordinates (-3165, 2695, 0567). Upon arrival, retrieve the Camera and align the viewfinder towards the northwest while looking downwards.
Below, the player will realize that Varke's mentioned "giant bird" is, in fact, a vast snowy plain resembling a majestic "Bird with outstretched wings." As soon as the caption and red exclamation point appear in the viewfinder, the player can capture the photo as per Varke's request.
Return to the stable and engage with the frame to gain Varke's attention. Present the photo of the impressive avian creature captured at Talonto Peak, and he will enthusiastically craft a replica to display on the stable's wall. In gratitude, Varke will grant the player 1 Pony Point, serve a delectable Spicy Meat Stew, and mark the fulfillment of the quest "A Picture for Snowfield Stable."
