Set after the events of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum chronicles the journey of Gollum in his quest to locate and reclaim the One Ring. Leaving the Misty Mountains behind, Gollum embarks on his search in the Shadow Mountains located in Mordor, where he has spent a considerable portion of his life. While Gollum typically scours the mountainous terrain for sustenance, he may chance upon a Collectible if he explores certain areas.
As players progress through The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, they will come across numerous Collectibles, although some are more challenging to uncover than others. The Whetstone, for instance, is the sole Collectible available in Chapter 1, and its hidden location can prove to be quite the obstacle for players who are unfamiliar with the game's intricacies.
Where to Find the Whetstone Collectible in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum?
Players can actually get their hands on the Whetstone Collectible early on in Chapter 1: The Wraith. However, it's easy to miss if they're rushing through the game without exploring the climbable areas around them. As long as players haven't passed the "Day is near. Go back to your cave" objective, they can find the Collectible by climbing further up the mountain.
After mastering the technique of Far Jump and vine climbing, Gollum, the peculiar protagonist, faces a daunting task of leaping across a considerable gap to grasp onto the vines on the opposite wall. Upon reaching the top, he must overcome two additional sets of vines to access the next area, where the first Collectible of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum awaits.
To proceed to the subsequent part of the story, players must navigate to the end of the room. However, before doing so, they should take notice of the protruding rock platforms on the left-hand side. By jumping onto the first platform, Gollum can then proceed to climb to the one above, and from there, leap to the slightly higher one, ultimately reaching a narrow stone walkway.
To reach these platforms, players can perform precise regular jumps. However, if they find it difficult to close the distance, they can use Gollum's Far Jump ability to increase their chances.
Moving towards the right of the walkway, Gollum should turn right and jump to the top of the stone pillar. From there, he can jump to the second stone walkway ahead. Turning right again, he will come across a small hole in the wall. Crawling through it will lead him to a hidden area where the Whetstone Collectible can be found lying on the ground.
After acquiring the Whetstone Collectible, players can easily access all their collectibles by returning to the Main Menu and selecting the Collectibles option. This feature allows players to examine all the collectibles they have found so far, including the Whetstone, and hear Gollum's thoughts about them. It's a great way to keep track of your progress and learn more about the world of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
When Gollum selects the Whetstone, he remarks, "Can make our teeth sharp again with this one," which suggests his intention to use the Whetstone to sharpen his teeth.
