The Lord of the Rings: Gollum delves into the life of the infamous Gollum, exploring his experiences in Mordor and his struggles after leaving the One Ring behind. Despite the loss of the Ring's protection, Gollum adapted and relied on his own abilities to survive. However, his desire for the Ring's power still lingered.
Interestingly, Gollum's time with the One Ring has granted him the unique ability to connect with the unseen realm, known in the game as Gollum Sense. This mechanic proves to be incredibly useful throughout the game, allowing Gollum to navigate his surroundings with ease.
When players activate Gollum Sense, it will cast a shadow over all visible areas while highlighting important items, locations, and NPCs. This ability not only simplifies the process of finding Collectibles, but it also helps players avoid accidental encounters with enemies.
When Gollum Sense is active, Collectibles will emit a blue glow. Certain environmental objects such as doors, levers, and swinging poles will also emit a blue glow. Enemies, on the other hand, will glow red. NPCs that Gollum can interact with will emit a yellow glow, while hiding spots like tall grass and cages will emit a purple glow.
As if Gollum's ability wasn't already incredibly useful, it also serves as a helpful guide for players who may find themselves lost or stuck. Upon activating Gollum Sense, players will typically see a trail of swirling orange lines leading in a specific direction. Following these lines will lead players to their next destination, allowing for smooth progression through the current area. However, these lines only appear in certain areas, making them easy to miss at times.
If players are struggling to determine where to go next, they can activate Gollum Sense and explore the area until they spot the orange swirls. Following these lines will enable them to progress through the chapter with ease.
Players can utilize the Gollum Sense feature in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for various purposes, including finding Collectibles, evading enemies, and navigating through the game. Activating this ability is simple - console players can easily tap L1 while PC players can press the R key.
Gollum Sense remains active while Gollum is standing still, but once he moves, his vision reverts to normal. However, the effects of Gollum Sense linger for a few moments, allowing players to easily spot highlighted items and enemies even after deactivating the ability.
While Gollum Sense is primarily designed for stationary use, players can activate it while on the move to quickly scan for nearby collectibles and foes.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and will be released for Nintendo Switch later this year.
