A man recently arrested in Aberdeen, Maryland, has been accused of causing explosions, and the presence of Pokemon TCG cards played a pivotal role in his capture. While stories of Pokemon TCG card theft are not uncommon, this marks the first instance in which the police have utilized these cards to apprehend an individual involved in a separate crime.
Pokemon TCG, along with other popular card games like Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh, holds a prominent position in the gaming world. Since its initial release in 1998, the game has experienced numerous expansions, introducing new cards alongside the emergence of new Pokemon games. Sadly, it appears that one man's passion for the game ultimately led to his downfall.
The Aberdeen police department recently apprehended Jeremiah E. Burnette for igniting multiple explosions within his neighborhood. Interestingly, it was the presence of Pokemon TCG cards within one of the explosion craters that ultimately led to his capture. Coincidentally, a few days prior to the incident, some officers had noticed Burnette in possession of several Pokemon cards, making him a significant suspect. Subsequently, Burnette confessed to orchestrating the detonations, revealing that he had illegally manufactured M-80 explosives.
According to local authorities, Burnette had no ties to any terrorist group and did not provide a concrete motive for his actions. Interestingly, it appears that leaving the cards at the crime scene was not intentional, but rather a mistake. Burnette, who had already paid a $10,000 bail and been released after his arrest, expressed frustration to a journalist about being referred to as the "Pokebomber" online due to the unfolding events.
However, this incident is not an isolated case involving Pokemon cards, as they are more commonly involved in crimes than one might expect. For instance, just recently in Tokyo, a man was apprehended for stealing 1,500 Pokemon cards. It was reported that he had been promised 1 million yen (approximately $7,000) for committing the theft, but his employer failed to show up and pay him.
In a shocking incident that occurred in Burbank, California, criminals managed to steal a staggering $1 million worth of Pokemon cards and other collectibles from a hobby store. The store was targeted by a group of three thieves who not only ransacked the premises but also managed to evade arrest. Despite surveillance footage capturing the face of one of the perpetrators, law enforcement authorities were unable to apprehend the culprits. This incident highlights the audacity and brazenness of criminals in targeting valuable items, leaving the store and its owners devastated. (Source: CBS News)
