In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players can embark on the main quest of Destroy Ganondorf by speaking with Purah in Lookout Landing once they have obtained the Master Sword. This quest requires players to locate and defeat the Demon King, which can be a daunting task. To assist players in overcoming any obstacles they may encounter during this quest, a walkthrough has been provided. It is recommended that players prepare themselves before embarking on this quest, and a list of necessary preparations has been provided for their convenience.
For defeating Destroy Ganondorf, it is crucial to have food that can heal Gloom hearts. These dishes can be made by cooking Sundelions with meats, fruits, or herbs and should be consumed in large quantities during the quest. It is also important to have a full inventory of Shields as they are likely to break during the fight. Additionally, Gloom Resistance can make certain sections of the quest easier, though it is optional as Gloom can be combated with the healing foods alone.
Rewritten: To begin the Destroy Ganondorf main quest, players must locate the Demon King who resides in the chasm beneath Hyrule Castle. Beat Demon King Ganondorf
During the battle with Ganondorf, it's crucial to perform perfect dodges to set up Flurry Rushes. Keep your block up unless you're dodging or executing a Flurry Rush. To stay healthy, make sure to consume TotK's standard healing foods and Gloom healing foods as necessary. If you're feeling under-prepared, you can always leave the battle by reloading a save from before you arrived at Ganondorf and using fast travel.
Phase 1
: Ganondorf's sword attacks are slow and telegraphed, giving players ample time to dodge and counterattack. Use Link's quick sword strikes and shield to parry and counterattack when possible.
Spear: Ganondorf's spear attacks have longer range than his sword attacks, but are also slower and more telegraphed. Use Link's quick sword strikes to parry and counterattack when possible, and keep a safe distance to avoid getting hit.
Club: Ganondorf's club attacks are slow, but deal heavy damage and have a wide area of effect. Use Link's shield to block these attacks, and wait for an opening to strike with quick sword strikes.
Bow: Ganondorf's bow attacks are fast and deal ranged damage, but can be easily dodged by moving around the arena. Close the distance quickly and use Link's quick sword strikes to deal damage while avoiding the arrows.
It is recommended for players to maintain a safe distance from Ganondorf when he wields his sword, as this will result in him using two easily avoidable attacks. The first one involves him running towards Link with his sword to the side, and players should dodge backwards just before he swings to trigger a Flurry Rush. In the second attack, Ganondorf again charges towards Link, but this time with his sword pointed upwards. Players can dodge sideways to evade the attack and then execute a Flurry Rush.
Although it is possible to use Ganondorf's sword attacks when he is close to Link to set up a Flurry Rush, it comes with the risk of him performing a charged spin attack that deals significant Gloom damage. It is safer to stay away from Ganondorf altogether to avoid this attack, even though it can easily be avoided by continuously backpedaling.
To counter Ganondorf's spear attacks, it's best to keep your distance and wait for him to perform a lunge attack. This move can be easily avoided with a sideways dodge, allowing you to set up a Flurry Rush. If Ganondorf charges his lunge from afar, it's possible to perfect dodge and counter with a Flurry Rush, but the timing can be difficult to master.
Players of Tears of the Kingdom should maintain a safe distance from Ganondorf whenever he wields his club. This tactic can lure him into attacking, which can then be easily evaded. When he jumps into the air to strike Link with his club, players can perform a backward dodge at the peak of his jump, leading to a Flurry Rush.
users can take advantage of Ganondorf's slow movement speed and use long-range attacks to keep their distance and avoid his powerful melee attacks. Additionally, using bombs and remote bombs can create opportunities for players to deal damage while keeping a safe distance.
Gandondorf mainly uses the bow as a backup weapon and tends to switch to it only when Link is at a distance. In such cases, players should focus on evading the projectiles by sprinting towards Gandondorf and closing the distance, which will prompt him to switch to a different weapon.
Phase 2
Once Ganondorf's health is completely drained, he will summon his mimics and his health bar will increase significantly. However, the Sages from TotK will enter the battle at this point and players should assign them to handle the mimics while they focus on fighting Ganondorf in a different part of the arena.
To tackle the second phase of the battle with Ganondorf, fans should stick to the same strategies that proved successful in Phase 1. Dodging and executing Flurry Rushes can be effective in countering Ganondorf's unchanging assault, making it possible to progress through this phase with relative ease.
Phase 3
During Phase 3, players will confront Ganondorf without any assistance once again, as his second health bar reaches 50%. Despite the similarities to Phase 1, there are two noteworthy changes that players should take note of. Firstly, Ganondorf's moveset has been enhanced, with most of his weapons now capable of wiping out Link's hearts with a new attack. Secondly, players must now execute two consecutive perfect dodges to inflict any damage on Ganondorf, as he will evade the initial Flurry Rush.
Players can avoid the Gloom attacks by swiftly moving and sprinting through the gaps between the red hazards that can harm Link. For the second modification, players should follow the established strategies to set up the first Flurry Rush, which Ganondorf will dodge. After the dodge, the Demon King will perform a follow-up attack, and players should execute a backward dodge (when the foe is using a sword or club) or a sideways dodge (when he is using a spear) to perform the second Flurry Rush.
If players have difficulty performing two consecutive perfect dodges, they can try a more aggressive approach by forcing Ganondorf into dodges with standard strikes and then perfect dodging his follow-up attack to land a Flurry Rush. However, this strategy can be risky since mistimed standard strikes can result in punishment.
Phase 4
To defeat the Demon King in his dragon form during the boss battle, players just need to glide onto his back and destroy the exposed masses of eyes while dodging the red bolts. This section of the battle is the easiest, and while running across the Demon Dragon, Link will take Gloom damage, which is healed every time he is thrown off.
Players need to focus on attacking the Secret Stone on the Demon Dragon's head with a melee weapon once the four masses of eyes have been eliminated. This will trigger a cutscene and successfully wrap up the Destroy Ganondorf main quest in Tears of the Kingdom. The game is currently accessible on Nintendo Switch.
