Actor Tyler Christopher, recognized for his appearances on "General Hospital" and "Days of Our Lives," passed away at the age of 50. His representative, Chi Muoi Lo, confirmed the sad news in a statement to CNN, announcing that the actor passed away on Tuesday morning.
The news of his loss has left me shocked and devastated. Not only was he an incredibly gifted actor, but he was also an amazing friend. My heartfelt condolences go out to his loved ones.
Maurice Bernard, co-star of "General Hospital," also paid tribute to the actor, describing him as a truly talented individual who brought joy to his fans through his exceptional performances on screen.
Tyler was described as a kind-hearted individual and a great friend to everyone who was acquainted with him. In 2008, Christopher tied the knot with Brienne Pedigo, an ESPN reporter, and they had two children together. People magazine reported that their marriage came to an end in 2021. Prior to that, Christopher was married to actress Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.
Christopher gained recognition for portraying Nikolas Cassadine, a beloved character on the long-standing soap opera "General Hospital." He skillfully played the role from 1996 to 2016, receiving a Daytime Emmy win and an additional four nominations for his outstanding performances throughout his tenure.
In a 2017 interview with Soap Opera Digest, Christopher revealed that he departed from "General Hospital" to take a personal hiatus, but ultimately did not make a comeback to the show. Subsequently, he took the lead as Stefan DiMera on the NBC soap opera "Days of Our Lives" from 2018 to 2019, garnering a Daytime Emmy nomination for his exceptional portrayal.
Christopher faced numerous challenges in his final years, apart from his successful acting career. In 2019, he suffered a fall in his home's bathroom, resulting in head injuries, for which he underwent craniotomy surgery. In July, he participated in an interview with Bloomberg Law where he mentioned that his sister had sought legal guardianship to assist him during his recovery. However, this guardianship came to a conclusion in 2021.
In May, the LA Times reported that the actor was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at the Hollywood-Burbank airport.
Bernard expressed in his Instagram post on Tuesday that Tyler was a strong supporter of improved mental health and substance abuse treatment. He openly shared his battles with bipolar depression and alcohol. The loss of our beloved friend has left us completely devastated, and we send our prayers to his children and father.
