Days of Our Lives star Tyler Christopher has passed away at the age of 50. His former General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard made the announcement on Tuesday, October 31, expressing his sadness over the news. Benard, 60, revealed on Instagram that Christopher died in his San Diego apartment this morning after suffering from a cardiac event.
Benard, the actor portraying Sonny Corinthos on the soap opera, fondly remembered Christopher as a "truly gifted individual who captivated the audience in every scene he graced on GH." Benard further expressed Christopher's passion for delighting his devoted fans through his exceptional acting abilities. Additionally, he spoke of Christopher as a kind-hearted spirit and an amazing companion to everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
He concluded by expressing his deep sorrow and grief over the tragic loss of his dear friend, Tyler, who was a strong advocate for improved mental health and substance abuse treatment. In addition to openly discussing his own battles with bipolar depression and alcohol, Tyler's dedication to this cause inspired many. Christopher, known for his roles as Nikolas Cassadine and Connor Bishop on General Hospital from 1996 to 2016, established himself in Hollywood. Throughout his tenure, he received five Daytime Emmy Award nominations and won the prestigious Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016. Furthermore, he made a lasting impression with his portrayal of Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives from 2001 to 2019, which resulted in yet another Daytime Emmy nomination. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler's children and father during this incredibly difficult time.
The late actor’s other credits include playing Dan Whitehorse on The Lying Game and starring in Moon Crash, Thor: God of Thunder and 2023’s Ice Storm.
Tyler Christopher, known for his role in General Hospital, encountered legal trouble earlier this year when he was apprehended at a California airport on suspicion of public intoxication. Following reports of an inebriated man at the Burbank airport, authorities responded promptly, leading to Christopher's detainment as he was discovered sleeping on the terminal floor. Subsequently, he was released but issued a $250 fine.
Having already been arrested in Indiana for public intoxication in 2019, this recent incident marked Christopher's second encounter with law enforcement within a span of four years. Notably, he was previously married to Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004, before entering into a second marriage in 2008 with former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo. Unfortunately, their union reportedly came to an end in 2021 with a divorce.
The Pretty Broken actor is survived by his and Pedigo’s two children, Greysun James and Boheme.
