Kelly's health problems arise just days before the scheduled release of her upcoming EP, Tori, on Friday, July 28th. On July 11th, Kelly cleverly hinted at more exciting things to come through an Instagram post, urging her followers to "pre-save" the upcoming songs.

On July 17th, Kelly, who tied the knot with André Murillo in 2018, unveiled the tracklist for her EP. It consists of captivating titles such as "Alive if I Die," "Cut," and "Shelter," alongside four other brand-new tracks.

Kelly provided fans with a sneak peek of her photo shoot for the EP, just before her visit to the hospital on Sunday. "1 week out," she captioned the Instagram post on Friday, July 21, sharing numerous photos from the set. In one video, Kelly flashed a peace sign while striking poses in her dressing room.

Tori is the fourth EP by Kelly, who initially released her first extended play, Handmade Songs, in May 2012. Following that, Kelly released two more EPs: Foreword in October 2013 and Solitude in August 2020.

Furthermore, Kelly has an impressive discography of four full-length studio albums. Her debut record, Unbreakable Smile, was released in June 2015 and achieved the No. 2 position on the U.S. charts. Subsequently, she released Hiding Place in September 2018, Inspired by True Events in August 2019, and A Tori Kelly Christmas in October 2020.

"Music is essentially my expertise, therefore I have an overwhelming desire for fans to experience it," Kelly expressed to Elite Daily in May, during the promotion of her forthcoming EP. "Our inspiration derives from late '90s hip-hop, and R&B undeniably plays a significant role in influencing my artistry. I am exploring various musical elements throughout my career, but simultaneously, this marks a new musical era for me, with a plethora of uncharted possibilities awaiting."
