Nickelodeon star Kel Mitchell is recovering after a recent health scare. Mitchell, 45, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and prayers he received during this truly terrifying time. "The scare was real, but the support was equally real," Mitchell shared on Instagram on November 8th.
He continued: "Thanks to God and the expertise of the medical team, I am now recovering at home, surrounded by the love of my family. Your kindness has been incredibly important to me, and words cannot express my gratitude. Sending much love to all of you."
The All That former cast member did not reveal the details of his ailment, but according to TMZ's report earlier on Wednesday, Mitchell had been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital.
Mitchell's wife, Asia Lee, shared the social media statement on her Instagram Story. They have been happily married since January 2012 and together they have two children, daughter Wisdom and son Honor. Additionally, Mitchell is a father to two daughters, Allure and Lyric, from his previous marriage to Tyisha Hampton.
In response to the post, Mitchell's celebrity friends expressed their well wishes for a quick recovery. Kenan Thompson, for example, conveyed his support through a series of praying hands emojis.
Mitchell and Thompson have been friends and colleagues since 1994 when they first met on the set of Nickelodeon’s All That. Their comedic talents eventually led to them receiving their own spinoff show called Kenan & Kel three years later, which was based on a sketch with the same name.
"We didn't know each other before All That, and it's interesting how we all came together," Mitchell shared during a March interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "I'm not sure if it was planned, but they had all the kids come out of the elevator in the lobby one by one. I was already there, and then this kid appeared wearing Mighty Ducks gear and rollerblades. I thought to myself, 'I have to hang out with that kid!'"
He stated: "The dynamic between me and Kenan was amazing. Whenever I would crack a joke, he would always have the perfect ending, and it just felt like we had great chemistry."
Kenan & Kel, the popular duo, had a successful run with their TV series for four seasons. One of their most iconic segments, "Good Burger," even went on to inspire a movie in 1997 with the same title.
Thompson, 45, and Mitchell announced in March that a sequel to Good Burger was finally in the works. Production commenced in May and Good Burger 2 will be exclusively available on Paramount+ starting November 22. The film reunites Thompson and Mitchell as their beloved characters Ed and Dexter. The official trailer showcases the duo engaging in their signature comedic antics during their breaks at the fast food restaurant.
