Star Wars has always been known for its vast collection of spaceships, ranging from the iconic Millennium Falcon to the colossal Death Star. However, the franchise truly shines in its diverse selection of starships, specifically designed for hyperspace travel through the use of hyperdrives. Despite their massive size, some of these starships are still able to achieve incredible speeds. Interestingly, many of the largest vessels are associated with the villains of the Empire and the First Order, who are known for their egotistical ways.
5 The Executor: A Perfect Fit For Darth Vader
The Executor, a massive starship featured prominently in Marvel's Darth Vader comic book series, served as the commanding vessel of the Death Squadron following the Battle of Yavin. Boasting an impressive 26,247 feet in length, the ship could reach speeds of up to 62 miles per hour and possessed a Class 1 hyperdrive rating. The ship met its explosive demise during the Battle of Endor, when Alliance pilot Arvel Crynyd heroically sacrificed himself by crashing his A-wing starfighter into the Executor, ultimately causing it to crash into the Death Star II.
4 The Eclipse: Palpatine's Extravagance Frustrates Allies
In contrast to the unexplained return of Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker, the Legends universe provides a possible explanation. Apparently, Darth Sidious had planned ahead of his death and created clone bodies to inhabit later. One such clone was housed in the massive ship called the Eclipse, which became Palpatine's home starship after his initial demise in Return of the Jedi. However, the construction of the Eclipse was seen as a waste of resources by many within the remnants of the Empire. Even after the original Eclipse was destroyed during a Force-focused confrontation with Luke and Leia, Palpatine approved the construction of a second one.
3 The Vengeance-Class Star Dreadnought: Starships Excel In Video Games
The massive and luxurious spacecraft of the feared Dark Jedi Jerec was his prized possession as he relentlessly searched for the fabled Valley of the Jedi. Measuring an astonishing 62,336 feet in length, this vessel was a testament to Jerec's insatiable desire for power.
Jerec, a Jedi who evaded the events of Order 66 due to his travels, ultimately succumbed to the allure of the dark side and became an Inquisitor. His intense rivalry with the self-taught Jedi and beloved video game character Kyle Katarn culminated in a destructive battle in Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. Despite Jerec's demise, his colossal ship lived on.
Interestingly, the slender KDY Super Star Destroyer was spotted near Ruusan and later became a crucial element in Palpatine's strategic plan to regain control of the galaxy through his Shadow Hand. Its design was subsequently replicated and mass-produced for the Empire's use.
2 The Eye of Palpatine: Darth Sidious' Battlemoon/Starship Hybrid
The Eye of Palpatine, one of the notorious death machines of Darth Sidious, was his flagship vessel in Children of the Jedi. Barbara Hambly's best-selling novel unveils one of the sinister schemes of the infamous Emperor during the Galactic Empire era. Palpatine discovered a fortress for Jedi children on the planet Belsavis and attempted to annihilate them using his new ship. However, the Eye of Palpatine's destructive power was defeated by the heroic Jedi Callista. In one of the most thrilling moments in the Legends stories, Callista transcended her life force into the ship to shut down its systems.
1 The Supremacy: Living Up To Its Name In Size
The Eye of Palpatine boasts a length on par with that of the intimidating Vengeance-class Star Dreadnought. However, its unusual shape makes determining its width a challenging task. As a dual-purpose vessel functioning both as a ship and a potent battlemoon, it is one of the densest and most massive creations the galaxy has ever witnessed.
Supreme Leader Snoke, the villainous character in the new trilogy, was shrouded in mystery with little information about his past. However, in The Last Jedi, his grandiose and self-absorbed personality were revealed. His expensive attire, unique ring, and cruel mannerisms were not enough to emphasize his huge ego, as his flagship vessel, The Supremacy, was absurdly large.
The starship, which boasts an impressive 196,850-foot wing span and measures 42,650 feet in length, plays a significant role in Snoke's operations as well as his unexpected downfall. Betrayed and ultimately killed by Kylo Ren, his own protege, Snoke is gruesomely sliced in half while seated on his throne, paving the way for the epic battle between Ren, Rey, and the Supreme Leader's loyal guards. Undoubtedly, the ship remains a standout feature of Andy Serkis' short-lived but unforgettable character.
