Highlights

Tom Holland's Spider-Man suit never felt right in the MCU, deviating from the comics and lacking in design compared to previous iterations.

His suits, primarily crafted by Stark Tech, boasted impressive strength and advanced technology, yet fell short in terms of aesthetics. An example of this was the Iron Spider suit, which leaned more towards resembling Iron Man rather than Spider-Man.

Ultimately, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter takes the initiative to design his very own Spider-Man suit, incorporating a timeless blue and red color scheme. This creation draws inspiration from the iconic suits worn by both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Admirers fervently anticipate the inclusion of this suit as a lasting fixture in the forthcoming sequel.

Various actors have taken on the role of Spider-Man throughout the years, each bringing their own strengths and weaknesses. Tobey Maguire's rendition in the Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi revolutionized the superhero genre, while Andrew Garfield's portrayal featured a spider-suit that closely resembled the comics. Tom Holland's interpretation manages to combine the best elements of both, making him a beloved choice among fans.

However, there is one aspect of the MCU Spidey that doesn't sit well with many: his suit design. Throughout his first trilogy, Tom Holland's Spider-Man suit never quite hit the mark in terms of appearance or overall aesthetic. The Marvel Cinematic Universe struggled to capture the essence of the iconic Spidey suit, a feature that set the Raimi and Amazing movies apart.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man Suit Never Looked Right

The MCU has revolutionized superhero suit designs across all universes by adding a modern touch. However, this change has deviated from the comic accuracy of superhero suits in order to infuse that modern touch, making it the standard for every superhero movie. This sets the characters apart from their comic counterparts, and Spider-Man is a victim of this trend.

Despite Tom Holland’s Spider-Man making the most appearances out of any other Spider-Men, his suit never felt right in all six of his appearances. One of the main reasons for this is that his suits were mostly made by Stark Tech instead of Peter himself. While Tom’s Spidey suits are superior in terms of strength and technology, they lack in design. The Iron Spider suit, in particular, is one of the least favorite Spider-Man suits as it has more of Iron Man’s aesthetics than Spider-Man's. Additionally, the fact that the suit was entirely CGI further detracted from its on-screen appearance.

Change does not always result in improvement, and this holds true for Holland's Spider-Man suit. It is a traditional occurrence for every Spider-Man to design a temporary costume before creating a proper one, but Holland surpasses his predecessors with the number of different suits he has worn. Tobey Maguire's suit remained unchanged throughout the trilogy, except for Spider-Man 3 when the Venom symbiote took control. Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man had two suits in each of his Amazing Spider-Man movies. Interestingly, both actors wore the same suit again in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Tom's Spidey has worn a staggering total of eight different suits in his six appearances in the MCU. Even if a particular suit was favored by some, it only appeared on-screen briefly. For example, the black and gold suit, which was essentially his red and black costume turned inside out, or the Night Monkey suit, worn under the alias of Night Monkey rather than Spider-Man.

Unlike other superheroes who gradually build their way up to becoming well-equipped, Tom Holland's Spider-Man was already well-equipped from the start. However, after Tony's passing and the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast a spell to erase everyone's memory of his true identity after Mysterio exposes it, Peter finds himself starting over. Although the "Home" trilogy has concluded, Peter's journey continues. He is now disconnected from the Avengers and embraces a more down-to-earth, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man persona.

Peter experiences a great loss in Spider-Man: No Way Home, including his loved ones, his privileges, and even his connection to Stark Tech. However, there is a turning point when Peter moves into his own apartment and takes it upon himself to create a new Spider-Man suit. Although not fully revealed, the suit seems to follow a classic blue and red color scheme, with a simpler design compared to his previous costumes. Drawing inspiration from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, the suit's eyes are larger and reminiscent of The Amazing Spider-Man 2's suit. It serves as a homage to both previous incarnations of Spider-Man, as they played a pivotal role in the film. In a brief sequence at the end of the film, Peter swings through the city as Spider-Man once again, leaving fans eager for this suit to become a permanent addition in the next installment. Such was the admiration for this suit among fans that it was even incorporated as a mod in the Spider-Man PS4 game.
