Rumors have been circulating for months about which characters will appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. While it remains unclear if any of the live-action Spider-Man actors will make a cameo, it has been confirmed that at least one recognizable character from Tom Hardy's Venom will appear in the film.
One of the most widespread rumors suggested that Tom Holland was involved in the production of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Sony Pictures fueled this rumor by including archival audio from all three live-action Spider-Man movie series, featuring Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire as their respective Spider-Men, in one of the trailers for the movie. However, the trailer did not provide any confirmation of the actors' appearances. In contrast, a recent image shared by Sony Pictures Vietnam confirms the appearance of one character.
A promotional image for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has surfaced on Sony Pictures Vietnam's Facebook page, revealing a surprising addition to the movie. The photo features a shot from the film featuring the Spot reaching through a portal into a familiar convenience store, with the Vietnamese text on the image translating to "Tom Hardy's Universe appears in Spider-Verse 2." The caption also confirms that the woman in the image is Venom's Mrs. Chen. This marks the second time the Venom universe has crossed into another Spider-Man universe, as seen in a mid-credits scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home. Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, is transported back to his universe, leaving a small bit of symbiote behind to potentially cause trouble. It's clear that fans can expect exciting crossovers and surprises in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film.
Although there has been no official confirmation, it is possible that Eddie and Venom may make an appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, especially since they have already made a crossover into the official MCU timeline. A recently posted image from an official Sony Pictures account depicting the universe in which Venom lives in increases the likelihood of their appearance. However, it is still uncertain whether Hardy was involved with the movie. Even if Eddie and Venom do not make an appearance in this sequel, fans will still get to see their favorite convenience store owner. Mark your calendars as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
