Tom Holland has finally shared a new update on Spider-Man 4 as the actor eyes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the SAG-AFTRA strike ended this fall, an endless amount of movies and TV shows have been able to go back into development or production. Ever since the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending set up a new era for the wall-crawler, the MCU audience has been trying to predict what story Spider-Man 4 will tell. In a new interview with Collider, Holland opened up about where he and the studios are at with Spider-Man 4. While not offering an update on when the movie might release, Holland made it clear that he, Sony Pictures, and Marvel Studios are "actively engaging in conversations" about the next Spider-Man movie, sharing the following:

All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.

Despite the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes being over, they did cause significant delays and shuffling of dates for Marvel Studios, especially in 2024, which will only have one MCU movie coming out in theaters. With that in mind, it begs the question when Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are actually planning to release Spider-Man 4. With the creative team still trying to figure out a story for Holland's web-crawler, it wouldn't be shocking if they don't even have Spider-Man 4 ready for Phase 6 at this stage.

Avengers: Secret Wars, which will bring an end to the Multiverse Saga, is heavily rumored to be a soft reboot for the MCU, and if that is the direction for the franchise, Spider-Man 4 may benefit from being saved until 2027 as part of Phase 7. It might also be relevant to take into consideration that Holland's Spider-Man could appear in other MCU movies before Spider-Man 4, in order to not leave the audience hanging for too long after Spider-Man: No Way Home. To this point, Spider-Man 4 doesn't yet have a director, and if a script is being written for the movie, the screenwriter hasn't been announced to the public.
