Tom Holland, the actor who portrays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared his candid opinion on the award-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Despite not reprising his role as Peter Parker in the movie, Holland remains closely connected to the character and offered his thoughts during an interview with the Associated Press at the premiere of his new series, The Crowded Room, on Apple TV+. Please note that this article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The actor confidently declared that the animated film is the ultimate Spider-Man movie ever produced. This is an audacious statement coming from the actor who is widely recognized as the best Spider-Man, and whose previous film was a blockbuster success, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback and grossing almost $2 billion at the box office. Holland also expressed his eagerness to view Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. His full remarks are as follows:
"I believe that the first 'Spider-Verse' movie is the ultimate Spider-Man movie ever made. I am extremely proud of everyone who contributed to its creation. Amy Pascal, the producer of the Spider-Man franchise, is like a mother to me. I wanted to attend the Across the Spider-Verse premiere with her as her date, but couldn't due to my current work commitments. Nonetheless, I am incredibly proud of their work, and I am eagerly anticipating the sequel. I am confident that it will meet and exceed all expectations, and I am excited to see it."
Could Tom Holland Join The Spider-Verse Franchise?
Although rumors suggested that Holland would make an appearance as Spider-Man in a live-action dimension in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it is clear that this was not the case. However, the film did include archival footage of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, and Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker could also be seen in the background during a few scenes. While Holland's Spider-Man was not physically present, the character was referenced by Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099, who expressed anger towards the MCU Spider-Man and Doctor Strange for interfering with the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man: No Way Home. These references may hint at Holland's potential involvement in the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse trilogy finale.
The latest Spider-Man movie in Holland's franchise united him with Maguire and Garfield's Peter Parkers, paving the way for the Spider-Verse to come to life on screen. Furthermore, the inclusion of Venom's Mrs. Chen in the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse expands the live-action Spider-Verse to encompass Tom Hardy's films and potentially all of Sony's Spider-Man Universe movies. Given Holland's and the Spider-Verse producers' interest in the actor joining the franchise and the upcoming sequel's establishment of more live-action events, it is highly likely that the MCU Spider-Man will make an appearance in the animated trilogy's final installment next year.
