Chelsea have announced that their captain, Reece James, will be sidelined for a period of time due to an injury sustained during training. Following the injury assessment, the new captain of Chelsea has commenced rehabilitation.
James suffered from various injury issues last season, including hamstring, knee, and thigh problems. This recent setback will be a further disappointment for Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Blues, as he has already lost Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana to long-term injuries. During Chelsea's first match of the season against Liverpool, James was substituted in the second half and was replaced by Malo Gusto, a 20-year-old who made his debut for the club.
Speaking on his podcast following the match, pundit Gary Neville expressed concern over the potential impact a James or Chilwell injury could have on Chelsea's prospects for the season. Neville highlighted the absence of the talented wing-backs and emphasized the significance of this occurrence, noting that it could potentially disrupt Pochettino's plans from the very start of the season.
The wing-backs must be exceptional players of exceptional quality, excelling in both attacking like wingers and defending like full-backs, which they have demonstrated. However, the major concern revolves around their ability to stay physically fit. Losing these key wing-backs could potentially result in the entire structure crumbling.
