Tiffany Haddish is done with drinking — except if she gets engaged.
The Girls Trip star has been on a sobriety journey in recent months following her second DUI arrest in November 2023.
Haddish, 44, shared with Extra in an interview published on Wednesday, May 22, that she has decided to refrain from drinking alcohol. She mentioned that the only exception for her would be if she gets engaged and wants to show her future partner how crazy she can get for just one day.
The comedian and actress also opened up about her sobriety, stating that it's going great for her.
Haddish expressed her reluctance to do a certain task because she enjoys waking up in the morning without feeling any pain in her elbows, knees, or ankles. She emphasized the absence of inflammation in her body.
It was revealed in November 2023 that Haddish had been arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles. This incident marked her second DUI within a span of two years. Allegedly, she was found asleep behind the wheel of her vehicle. Haddish faced two DUI misdemeanors and entered a plea of not guilty the following month.
However, both charges were dropped in February after the Haunted Mansion actress accepted a plea deal. Haddish pleaded no contest to a “wet reckless” charge (reckless driving involving alcohol).
“Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation — not driving under the influence, which has been dismissed — and looks forward to this being behind her,” her lawyer, Alex Spiro, told Rolling Stone at the time.
Haddish shared her journey to sobriety for the first time in March on the podcast, “The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet.” She mentioned that she has been alcohol and drug-free for 72 days, stating that it hasn't been too difficult for her.
Haddish shared that she was required by the court to be sober. She mentioned, "For two years, I was waiting for my hearing in Georgia. What happened in L.A. led Georgia to ask me to do alcohol tests for driving." She responded with, "Sure, that's fine."
In addition to being sober, Haddish is also choosing to practice celibacy.
In April, she shared with People that when drinking, her thoughts would lead her to being impulsive about sex. But now, she has a different mindset and is more cautious.
Haddish later explained in an interview with Extra that she is still dating, despite her previous comments on celibacy.
“I didn’t stop dating. I’m just not having intercourse, girl. I love a free meal,” said the comedian.
