Since her breakout role in Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish has been a formidable presence in the comedy world. However, her career has not been without its challenges. In the 2017 movie, Haddish played the confident and bold character Dina, who embarked on a wild adventure with a group of friends portrayed by Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Regina Hall.
Haddish's rising star brought with it a spotlight on her personal life. In 2019, she began dating rapper Common after meeting on the set of The Kitchen, but their relationship came to an end in 2021.
She described their relationship as "the healthiest, the most fun" she'd ever had, and expressed feeling the safest she'd ever felt in a relationship. However, she claimed that Common broke up with her over the phone, stating, "I think this relationship has run its course." Haddish responded by telling him, "OK. Like, you gonna be a 50-year-old single man. OK?"

Despite Girls Trip being Haddish's breakout role as an actress, she viewed it simply as another achievement to add to her résumé. Reflecting on this, Haddish expressed to Vanity Fair, "Girls Trip, it was like, 'Oh, good I got a job.' The big moment for me was doing stand-up on The Arsenio Hall Show. To me, that was bigger than me doing Def Comedy Jam, that was bigger than me doing Live at Gotham, or The Tonight Show, or anything like that because I remember being a little girl watching [the original] Arsenio Hall Show, wishing I could hang out with Arsenio, be Arsenio’s friend, or something in some kind of way."
She expressed at that moment, "And then as I got into comedy like, 'Oh man, if I could do comedy, I'm there.' And then it went away. And then when it came back, I was like, 'Oh, this is my chance.' And when I finally got a chance to do stand-up on there, to me that was like, 'I made it. Whatever comes after this is cake.'"

Haddish discovered her Jewish ancestry when she reconnected with her birth father at age 27. To honor this newfound heritage, she studied for and had her own bat mitzvah at the age of 40. She named her service the "Black Mitzvah," as it symbolized her identity as a Black woman embracing her Jewish roots. The event was the inspiration for a Netflix special. Haddish explained her decision in an Instagram video, stating that she is Jewish by DNA and wanted to officially become a grown woman through this ritual.

Moreover, my calling on this earth is to educate. Judaism fundamentally revolves around the notions of teaching, learning, and passing down narratives."

Her joyous reaction was captured while filming the TV series Kids Say the Darndest Things. She expressed disbelief, exclaiming, "I just won a Grammy? Are you serious? You know a Black woman hasn't won in that category since 1986? Yeah, a Black woman hasn't won for best comedy album since Whoopi Goldberg."
