Tiffany Haddish recently discussed her one-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Common, reflecting on both the positive and negative aspects. In a recent interview with The Washington Post, the 43-year-old actress admitted that it was the healthiest and most enjoyable relationship she had ever experienced. She further expressed that it was the one relationship where she felt the safest compared to her past experiences.
However, their relationship took a turn for the worse when Haddish disclosed that Common (whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn), 51, started excluding her from various events, such as Barack Obama's birthday party, a concert in New York, and even his own birthday celebration. Eventually, Common ended things with a phone call.
Haddish described the breakup to the outlet as being one-sided, stating, "It wasn't a mutual decision. He was the one who said, 'I think this relationship has come to an end.' And I replied, 'Okay. So you're going to be a single man at 50. Okay?'"
The Haunted Mansion actress remains optimistic about finding the perfect companion to share life's journey with, despite the complications of her previous relationship. Reflecting on her past experiences, she expressed, "However, I have spent a considerable amount of time by myself, becoming accustomed to feeling abandoned. Consequently, I have come to anticipate it, which is quite disheartening, isn't it?"
In August 2020, Haddish confirmed that she and Common had entered into a romantic relationship after portraying love interests in the 2019 film The Kitchen.
"This is, without a doubt, the most incredible relationship I've ever experienced. Fingers crossed!" she exclaimed during an episode of the "Wild Ride! With Steve-O" podcast. "Since being in this relationship, I've managed to shed 20 pounds. The confidence I've gained has nothing to do with him. I simply feel immensely happier, knowing that I have someone who truly cares about me and supports me. At least, that's how it seems. And I absolutely adore it. I adore him."
As the COVID-19 pandemic raged on, the two grew even closer while quarantining together at Common's residence. "His house is much larger than mine, which is a positive aspect. We primarily spend our time at his place," Haddish revealed on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in September 2020. "I reside in South Central L.A., and he's only been to my house once or twice, whereas I've been to his numerous times. He lives in the Hills, you know. It's lovely!"
By November 2021, news emerged that their relationship had come to an end. Four months prior to their separation, an exclusive source informed We that their friends highly admired their relationship and believed that they would stay together in the long term.
While media outlets attributed their breakup to long distance and hectic schedules, Haddish expressed her confusion over the reasoning behind their split.
"He may be the kind of person who never fully commits to someone, perhaps like a bee flitting from one flower to another," she shared on FOX SOUL's Hollywood Unlocked Uncensored with Jason Lee in December 2021. "I don't know. I only wish him joy and happiness. He will always be a cool person."
Although she felt "disappointed" by the end of their relationship, Haddish saw it as a fresh opportunity. She added, "I do miss him sometimes, but that's natural in any close relationship. However, I'm okay with it. It's all good."
