Ubisoft has recently revealed Star Wars Outlaws, a game that appears to fulfill fans' desires for an open-world Star Wars experience. The game allows players to assume the role of a thief named Kay Vess as they embark on an adventure through the underworld of the galaxy. Although not much is known about the game's storyline, it is anticipated to encompass all the beloved elements of the Star Wars franchise.

Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws will introduce a completely new narrative. While the main character may not have a direct connection to the Rebellion, it is likely that the Rebel Alliance will play a part in the overarching story. At this tumultuous period in the Star Wars galaxy, even the most unexpected heroes were compelled to join forces against the Galactic Empire. To some extent, Vess may find themselves fulfilling this duty, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

The Rebellion May Play a Part in Star Wars Outlaws

The Rebel Alliance reached its lowest point during the original trilogy in The Empire Strikes Back. Following the destruction of the Death Star, the Galactic Empire retaliated by launching an assault on the Rebels' covert base on Hoth. This forced the Rebels to flee, leading Luke Skywalker to journey to Dagobah while plunging the galaxy deeper into conflict. The Rebels suffered severe losses, their heroes became separated, and the situation deteriorated further. Han Solo was trapped in Carbonite, Luke failed to defeat Darth Vader, and the remaining Rebels fled into uncharted territory.

A year later in Return of the Jedi, significant events took place during this period. The Rebel fleet regrouped, Luke underwent training with Yoda, and Leia managed to locate Han Solo. Additionally, the galaxy descended even further into war as crime syndicates like Crimson Dawn joined forces against the Empire. Though not portrayed on-screen, the period has been extensively covered in numerous comic books, delving into the details of these occurrences.

Taking place in a turbulent time, Star Wars Outlaws featured a brief reveal trailer that included a shot resembling Han Solo frozen in Carbonite. This sighting could potentially be an Easter egg or a hint at Kay Vess' significant involvement with the Rebel Alliance. The search for Han Solo held great importance during this era, and Vess might play a crucial role in assisting the Rebels in locating him.

Leia eventually found Han Solo at the start of Return of the Jedi, but prior to that, he was consistently on the move. After being taken by Boba Fett from Cloud City, Crimson Dawn abducted Solo as part of an intricate plan to instigate a war between the Hutts and the Empire. Qi'ra, from the film Solo: A Star Wars Story, masterminded this entire scheme and attempted to auction Han off. Fortunately, Fett managed to intervene, preventing further conflict from erupting across the galaxy. It remains a possibility that Kay Vess was involved in either the theft or rescue of Solo, but players will have to wait patiently for further details.

Possibly involved in assisting the Rebel fleet's reunion, Kay Vess may have played a part after the events of The Empire Strikes Back. To facilitate their covert reunion, the Rebels devised a plan named Operation Starlight, which entailed the theft of an ancient droid from Coruscant. This droid was intended to aid the Rebels in creating an impregnable code. The significance of stealing this droid from Coruscant suggests that Vess is undertaking a monumental heist. Although Coruscant is not located in the Outer Rim, it is plausible that Ubisoft has adeptly concealed the true narrative of the game.
