The Legend of Zelda franchise has always showcased a remarkable array of bosses throughout its games, since the original 1986 release. While bosses may not be the highlight of every Zelda game, each installment offers a handful of memorable boss fights. These encounters introduce innovative mechanics and demand unique strategies to overcome. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom continues this tradition, incorporating elements from previous titles and paying homage to the franchise's rich history. Among the various bosses in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it is a completely new boss type that perfectly complements the game's fresh mechanics.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Flux Constructs Compliment its Mechanics Perfectly
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features remarkable bosses throughout the game. While some of the most exciting boss encounters are located at the end of the various dungeons, players can also encounter additional challenging bosses scattered throughout the vast world of Tears of the Kingdom. These bosses will test the player's skills and may require the utilization of the game's new mechanics in creative ways.
Spread across Hyrule, players will come across powerful Gleeoks, which are three-headed dragons infused with different elemental powers. In the Depths beneath Hyrule, players will encounter massive Froxes, imposing enemies capable of easily crushing Link. The battles against these bosses in the overworld generally demand thorough preparation from the player, encouraging the use of elixirs and the completion of side content, such as the Shrines, to enhance their hearts and stamina before attempting to fight. However, despite their challenging nature, defeating Gleeoks and Froxes does not necessarily require the utilization of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's new abilities. While players can certainly employ Fused weapons and makeshift death machines to defeat these bosses, it is not a mandatory requirement.
But The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features a unique boss type known as Flux Constructs. These Zonai-created bosses can be encountered throughout the game's expansive open-world, with a higher frequency in the Sky Islands and Zonai ruins in the Depths. Resembling a fusion of heavy metal blocks, these bosses possess strength and power, presenting the player with the exciting challenge of utilizing all their new abilities.
The player's most effective weapon against a Flux Construct is their Ultrahand ability, which allows them to target a glowing green weak spot on the boss. By interacting with this weak spot, the player can detach it from the rest of the Construct, rendering the boss temporarily vulnerable. In more intense battles against upgraded versions of the Flux Construct boss, players will need to employ the Ascend ability to reach the boss, which hovers above in the sky. Furthermore, the Flux Construct boss may occasionally eject portions of its blocky body while in mid-air.
Players have the option to dodge this attack and utilize the Recall ability in order to return atop the box to the remainder of the Construct's body. Subsequently, upon emerging victorious over the Flux Construct, players receive a unique material as a reward, which can be combined through Fusion to forge a remarkably potent Zonai weapon. Among all the bosses in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, none exemplify the incorporation of the game's fundamental mechanics quite like the Flux Construct. Currently, the game is accessible on the Switch platform.
