The Ultimate Skyrim: Mastering the Art of Business

Discover the secrets of the Thieves Guild in Skyrim by extorting Riften's businesses Uncover hidden opportunities for fun and profit as you navigate the intricate dealings with Keerava, Bersi, and Haelga Join the ranks of skilled thieves and unearth the treasures that await you

To gain access to the secretive Thieves Guild, players must first demonstrate their value in the hidden headquarters located in Riften. This involves proving themselves in the Riften market and uncovering the concealed Ragged Flagon beneath the city. Only after completing these tasks will players finally have the opportunity to meet the members of the Thieves Guild in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

However, even at this stage, players are required to prove themselves further to Brynjolf and the other thieves. This final test, known as "Taking Care of Business," is the last crucial step towards unlocking the Thieves Guild of Skyrim in its entirety, along with the numerous advantageous perks it offers.

Extorting for Fun and Profit

The Ultimate Skyrim: Mastering the Art of Business

To initiate the quest, locate Brynjolf in the Ragged Flagon and engage in conversation with him. He desires the Dragonborn to coerce three business owners in Riften into providing the Guild with the protection money they owe. Although he emphasizes the significance of the message over the monetary aspect, it is crucial to note that completing this quest necessitates both delivering a warning to each target and remitting 300 gold to Brynjolf.

Approaching each target offers three options. Firstly, Brynjolf offers a suggestion for the player to utilize in order to intimidate the target. Alternatively, players may initiate an unarmed brawl with the target, wherein a victory will result in the target surrendering their dues. It should be noted that this confrontation is not considered a full-blown fight, and other characters will refrain from involvement unless attacked by the player. Lastly, the player has the option to eliminate the target. However, killing the target will not yield any financial gain, and there is a substantial likelihood that witnesses will observe the crime and report it to the authorities. Nevertheless, this action still fulfills the objective set forth.

One crucial point to remember is that the final target will always surrender without resistance. Players are free to visit the targets in any sequence, and whichever target they approach last will already be informed about the other two and readily hand over the money. This outcome remains unchanged regardless of how the player handles the preceding two targets.

Keerava

The Bee and Barb Inn is owned by Keerava. Brynjolf recommends speaking to Talen-Jei, an Argonian also present at the inn, as the most convenient means to collect the money owed by Keerava. Engage with Talen-Jei regarding Keerava, subsequently inquire Keerava about her debt. Select the available options, and she will provide the payment of 100 gold.

Bersi

The Ultimate Skyrim: Mastering the Art of Business

Bersi, the owner of the Pawned Prawn in Riften, treasures an ancient dwarven urn that is placed on the table opposite his counter. As suggested by Brynjolf, one can break the urn by repeatedly attacking it with any weapon, and then proceed to collect Bersi's payment.

Haelga

The Ultimate Skyrim: Mastering the Art of Business

Haelga operates Haelga's Bunkhouse, which is not an establishment that players can interact with. As an ardent devotee of Dibella, she keeps her statue of the goddess on the right side of the counter. Make a right turn from the counter and then another right to locate it. It is advisable to commit the act of stealing without being detected, as it constitutes a criminal offense. Possessing the statue puts players in a position to demand payment from Haelga by threatening to discard it.

After dealing with the three targets, players should return to the Ragged Flagon and report to Brynjolf. Despite any circumstances surrounding the deaths of the targets (even if it was not the player's fault and occurred previously), Brynjolf will express anger towards the Dragonborn. However, regardless of this, he will officially induct players as full members of the Thieves Guild. This membership grants them a special set of lightweight armor, the ability to access a shortcut in the Riften cemetery, the ability to interact with all Thieves Guild fences (although initially only one is available), and the opportunity to undertake various dynamic Thieves Guild quests that will eventually unlock additional cities and resources.

The highly acclaimed game, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, is currently available on various platforms, including PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
