Highlights
Mortal Kombat 1's roster is impressive so far, but there are still significant gaps that need to be filled with vital characters. Some surprises may await longtime fans.
The introduction of the new timeline in Mortal Kombat 1 presents exciting opportunities for the expansion of characters' stories and destinies. It allows for the potential inclusion of previously undisclosed favorites within the game. Characters such as Jade, Onaga, Sheeva, and Shinnok could assume significant roles, contributing depth and intrigue to the roster. Moreover, the return of Kronika seeking revenge remains a plausible scenario.
The current roster for Mortal Kombat 1 is impressive, but there are still important characters missing. Despite many significant characters already being included in the story, there are gaps that may need to be filled with crucial characters. Surprising longtime fans, there are a few characters yet to be mentioned. After the events of Mortal Kombat 11, Liu Kang, now the God of Fire, has reset the universe. Although his plan for a peaceful world has failed, the new world brings changes and opportunities for many characters, including the possibility of introducing unannounced favorites in Mortal Kombat 1.
Kitana's Bodyguard Jade Could Be a Valuable Addition to Mortal Kombat 1
Fans are already familiar with Kitana's portrayal in Mortal Kombat 1, but the inclusion of her loyal ally, Jade, remains uncertain. Despite her significance in Kitana's story, there has been no announcement regarding Jade's role as a playable character or cameo fighter. This absence of Jade leaves a noticeable gap in the roster. Considering the altered timeline in Mortal Kombat 1, it is intriguing to explore Jade's involvement in the dynamic between Kitana and Mileena. Jade has consistently been an integral part of Kitana's inner circle and gained further importance with Kotal Kahn's introduction. Given her impact on numerous key characters, it is expected that Jade would have a presence in the new timeline.
Onaga Would Be a Fearsome Presence in Mortal Kombat 1
Onaga, the former ruler of Outworld, was not the most anticipated choice as a returning villain for Mortal Kombat 1. However, his terrifying presence is undeniable. Once unbeatable until his demise, his resurrection led to his relentless pursuit of reclaiming everything he deemed his. With his immense power and savage nature, Onaga posed a threat to both heroes and villains alike.
The potential reappearance of Onaga in Mortal Kombat 1 cannot be discounted. Characters like Quan Chi and Tanya, who have ties to him, have already been confirmed as part of the game, although Quan Chi will be available as downloadable content (DLC). The Dragon King would be a formidable enemy to contend with, and he may very well be one of the hidden menaces in the new universe.
Sheeva Could Be an Important Presence For the Shokan in Mortal Kombat 1
Goro, who was last seen in Mortal Kombat X, has been confirmed to make a comeback as a Kameo character. However, there is no confirmation yet on a playable Shokan in the roster. Sheeva, who previously filled this role in Mortal Kombat 3 and other games, could potentially step in again. She has portrayed various roles from villain to anti-hero, unlike Goro who has typically served as a minion to major villains.
In Mortal Kombat 11, Sheeva returned as the queen of the Shokan, holding an important and powerful position. Although Goro's presence may hinder her from reclaiming that honor, the idea of having a playable Shokan with a significant storyline is appealing. Sheeva's return would add an element of intrigue to the roster of Mortal Kombat 11.
Shinnok's Godlike Power is a Terrifying Prospect for Mortal Kombat 1
Shang Tsung may not be the main antagonist of Mortal Kombat 1, despite his deceitful past. However, there is a far greater threat that could assume the role instead. Shinnok, a god of pure malevolence, harbors a desire to obliterate all existence for his own selfish purposes. His malevolence was so immense that it led to his imprisonment in the Netherrealm by his fellow deities. The consequences of his return would be dire, not only for the heroes but for the entire Mortal Kombat universe.
Although there is a glimmer of hope for redeeming some of the villains in Mortal Kombat 1, Shinnok is beyond redemption. With his cunning, immense power, and manipulative nature, he dedicates his existence to spreading suffering and chaos as he tirelessly pursues his wicked plans. The fact that his former disciple Quan Chi is already included as downloadable content adds weight to the possibility of Shinnok's return in Mortal Kombat 1. The Mortal Kombat characters may have to pray that he does not make a formidable comeback.
Mortal Kombat 11 Could Be Kronika's Opportunity For Revenge
Liu Kang was able to reshape the universe in Mortal Kombat 1 by harnessing the powers of Kronika, the time-controlling Titan and antagonist of Mortal Kombat 11. Kronika had manipulated time and fighters to create her desired timeline, disregarding the potential consequences. Though Kronika was ultimately defeated, there is a possibility of her revival within the timeline of Mortal Kombat 1.
While Kronika was not a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11, it is plausible for her to return. Given her time-based abilities, the new Kronika could possess knowledge of her previous defeat and seek vengeance as a result. This would provide a compelling storyline for her character. As the most recent villain in the series, Kronika's presence is still fresh in the minds of many, making her reappearance in Mortal Kombat 1 within reach.
There are additional fighters yet to be introduced in Mortal Kombat 1, providing an opportunity for some prominent characters to join the game. The absence of certain fighters might be expected, but there are others who are crucial and it is difficult to fathom their exclusion from such a significant installment in the franchise. While most of Mortal Kombat's major characters are present in Mortal Kombat 1, a few of the strongest contenders are still absent. However, each of them possesses compelling reasons to be included in the storyline.
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release on September 19, 2023, and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
