Meet the Brutal New Additions to Mortal Kombat 1

NetherRealm's latest release, Mortal Kombat 1, has unveiled a slew of new characters at the Summer Game Fest Fans can now look forward to an even more diverse range of fighters, promising an even more thrilling gameplay experience

Mortal Kombat 1 made its Summer Game Fest debut with an exciting preview of its gameplay, revealing a fresh batch of characters that will be added to the roster. This latest installment takes place in a new universe, masterfully crafted by Fire God Liu Kang. The trailer showcases a world that appeared to be peaceful, but is now under siege by a new war. Notably, Scorpion and Sub-Zero's legendary rivalry has been put on hold.

The trailer offers a glimpse into Mortal Kombat 1's diverse gameplay systems, including fatalities and the Kameo Fighter system, among others. The Kameo Fighter system is a unique feature that allows players to combine combat techniques within teams, giving them a competitive edge. While some characters are exclusive to this system, others will be available on the base roster. As always, the combat is intense and unrelenting, with an array of gruesome fatalities, bone-crunching moves, and awe-inspiring abilities on display.

Every Mortal Kombat 1 Character Confirmed at Summer Game Fest

Mortal Kombat 1's initial lineup of characters included Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, and Shang Tsung, all of whom were featured in the debut trailer. However, the roster has since expanded to include a number of fan-favorite returning fighters. Among these are Kenshi, Jax, Goro, Kano, Sonya Blade, and Stryker, who can be selected as either main roster fighters or Kameo fighters, or in some cases, a combination of the two.

With Mortal Kombat 1 set to release in September, NetherRealm has plenty of time to reveal more about the game. Fans can expect extended marketing efforts over the next three months, potentially including more character reveals, confirmation of Kombat Packs, additional gameplay mechanics, and story teasers. It's clear that both Mortal Kombat and fighting game enthusiasts will have plenty to look forward to in the coming months.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19, 2023, for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
