Mortal Kombat 1 Switch Port: Fans Fear the Worst

Mortal Kombat 1's Switch port has fans anxiously awaiting its release With concerns ranging from storage space to graphics quality, gamers are eager to see if the highly anticipated title lives up to expectations

Fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise are expressing apprehension about the upcoming release of Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch. The main concerns revolve around the game's storage requirements and stability, with some players drawing comparisons to the troubled launch of Mortal Kombat 11 on the same console. Although the game is set to be an exclusive title for current-generation consoles and PC, the Switch version will be handled by the developers responsible for bringing The Witcher 3 to the platform.

Players have expressed skepticism about the upcoming port of Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch, citing concerns about its graphical fidelity and possible framerate issues. The previous port for Mortal Kombat 11 received a tepid reception and was left out of the game's crossplay beta test due to numerous issues, so players have valid concerns about this upcoming release. Interestingly, the game will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Some players have also noted the high storage requirements for the game, which requires over 100 GB of storage on current-gen consoles. While the Switch version may not take up as much space, it will likely require a high-capacity SD card. Despite these concerns, a few players remain hopeful about the port, noting that the Nintendo Switch has received FSR support to improve graphics without sacrificing performance.

It is possible that Mortal Kombat 1 for the Nintendo Switch could be released as a Cloud version, which would provide the same level of performance and graphics as other cloud-based Nintendo Switch ports. However, this would come with the drawback of requiring an always-online connection. Currently, there is no gameplay footage available for Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch or other current-gen consoles, leaving room for speculation. It will be interesting to see how NetherRealm Studios adapts the soft-reboot of the franchise for the Switch. Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to be released on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
