What to Plant?

Tears of the Kingdom offers players the opportunity to cultivate and reap their own harvests in Hateno Village. This can potentially spare them the need to forage for specific vegetables, fruits, and other items in the wilderness or purchase them from shops. Fortunately, tending to a garden in the game is as simple as conversing with the appropriate character and choosing which crops to cultivate.

How to Unlock "Uma's Garden" Side Quest

NPC Uma in Tears of the Kingdom can be found at the fields to the left of the Hateno School. Upon completing two specific side quests, players will have the opportunity to unlock the additional side quest called "Uma's Garden." After successfully completing "Uma's Garden," players will gain the ability to cultivate crops at their convenience.

Upon arriving at Hateno Village, Uma will inform players that the fields are not yet prepared for growing crops. To accelerate this process, it is imperative for players to lend a hand to Symin at the Hateno School (3365, -1985, 0129) and successfully finish the associated side quests.

Teach Me A Lesson I

Teach Me A Lesson II

To unlock the side quest "Teach Me A Lesson I," players can talk to Symin during the noon class session. In order to complete this quest, players must photograph the tapestry depicting The Calamity, located in Impa's house. To begin, warp to Kakariko Village.

Go to the second floor of Impa's House and look to the left side of the room.

Make sure the camera lens captures the entire tapestry.

After capturing the picture, go back to Hateno School during class and present the photo to Symin. In return, he will reward Link with ten servings of Hylian Rice.

In case players don't possess the Camera, they should approach Josha at Lookout Landing and fulfill the "Camera Work in the Depths" side quest.

Completing "Teach Me A Lesson I" and then speaking to Symin will unlock "Teach Me A Lesson II." It is important to note that Link must confront him during class to activate the second side quest. Symin will not offer the quest outside of his regular hours. In order to proceed with this lesson, players will need to prepare Monster Curry by combining the following ingredients:

- Goron Spice (available at the general store in Goron City)

Monster Extract (Tarrey Town)

Hylian Rice (use the rice from "Teach Me A Lesson I" or buy some from the Hateno Village store)

Cook up the Monster Curry and then give it to Symin during his cooking lesson. This will finally allow Link to use the Hateno School gardens.

The Ultimate Guide to Uma's Garden in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

"Uma's Garden" serves as a tutorial mode for the garden found in Tears of the Kingdom. To begin, players can locate Uma near the school, specifically at the fields down the hill (coordinates: 3342, -2030, 0117). Upon interacting with Uma, players will receive a side quest. Uma will then proceed to provide a detailed list of the various crops that can be grown in the garden.

Tomato

* Endura Carrot

Pumpkin

Tabantha Wheat

Hylian Rice

* Hearty Radish

Wildberry

Hydromelon

Choosing to plant either a Hearty Radish or an Endura Carrot will result in a lower yield. To grow these crops in the fields, players must have at least one vegetable, fruit, or grain in their inventory. Since the chosen item will be consumed, players should ensure they have multiple items in their inventory if they are saving up for specific food items.

Uma will advise Link that simply resting at an inn will not suffice for the crops to grow. The growth of crops in the game requires two in-game days, which is equivalent to one hour in real time. Additionally, players must make sure to leave Hateno Village at least once during this period, allowing them to engage in other activities such as quests or fighting monsters. After the two in-game days have passed, players are free to return to Hateno Village and check on the garden.

Upon the crops reaching maturity, the completion of the "Uma's Garden" side quest will be indicated. Link can then proceed to collect whatever he had planted for the side quest. If players wish to change the type of crop, they can consult with Uma and have her initiate the process again. It is important to note that this will remove the previous crop, so careful consideration should be given before making a decision.

If players decide to grow Tabantha Wheat or Hylian Rice, then they'll need to cut the crops before they can collect anything.

What Should You Grow?

Players have the freedom to select any crops they desire for cultivation. To mitigate concerns about obtaining lesser yields, it is advisable to refrain from planting Hearty Radishes or Endura Carrots. Nevertheless, considering the scarcity of Hearty Radishes, the slightly slower growth rate might be a worthwhile trade-off.

To upgrade their horses in Akkala, players should consider planting Swift Carrots, Endura, Hylian Rice, or Tabantha Wheat. Hylian Rice is not only required for the "Lurelin Village Restoration Project" side quest but also used in numerous recipes. Additionally, it can be conveniently obtained by farming near Lurelin Village or purchasing it from various stores.
