Where to Find the Hylian Armor in Tears of the Kingdom and Can You Upgrade It?

As players make their descent from the Great Sky Island to The Surface of Hyrule, they may find themselves with weak armor that won't cut it against tougher enemies. Fortunately, their main quest objective marker will lead them to a safe haven where they can purchase a budget-friendly Hylian armor set. But can this armor be upgraded to provide better protection? Let's find out.

The Hylian Set comprises of three parts: the Hylian Hood, Hylian Trousers, and Hylian Tunic. While players will eventually unlock superior armor options during their Tears of the Kingdom playthrough, the Hylian Set serves as a useful starting point for beginners or those on a budget who cannot afford the pricier armor sets.

The Hylian Armor Set is available for purchase at a store located in Lookout Landing, which can be easily found by setting the main quest as the objective in the Adventure Log. For players who are unfamiliar with the area, marking the objective on the map will make navigation easier, especially since the map will be blank at the beginning of the game.

After meeting Purah in Lookout Landing, Link can continue with the story events. Once he has been granted permission to enter the Lookout Landing Shelter, he should head to the armor store located at -0209, 0082, 0019.

By this point in the game, Link should have obtained both the Archaic Legwear and Archaic Tunic, leaving him only in need of head armor. Luckily, the Hylian Hood is a relatively inexpensive option. If Link is currently lacking in funds, he can always sell Materials or Meals in order to acquire the necessary Rupees for the purchase.

Here are the cost for each Hylian Armor piece:

Hylian Hood: 70 Rupees Hylian Tunic: 130 Rupees Hylian Trousers: 120 Rupees

If players are looking for their first armor set, they should prioritize the Hylian Hood. Although each piece of the Hylian Set offers a base defense of 3, players will soon require weather-resistant gear like the Snowquill Tunic. While the Hylian Set is available from the beginning, it lacks any unique effects.

Can You Upgrade the Hylian Armor Set?

To fully upgrade the Hylian Armor, players must seek the assistance of a Great Fairy. This can be achieved by completing all "Serenade to A Great Fairy" side quests. Once upgraded, the Hylian Armor becomes an even more formidable piece of equipment.

The Hylian Armor, despite being a part of a set, lacks a Set Bonus. As a result, players can opt for a mix-and-match approach with the other set pieces. However, upgrading all the pieces to level 2 won't yield any special benefits. Hence, it's advisable to concentrate on upgrading a single piece of the Hylian Armor set. For each piece, players can expect specific upgrades.

Bokoblins are the main monsters that players will be killing for this armor set. Unfortunately, the higher the upgrade, the higher quality the Bokoblin Monster Parts:

Bokoblins are a common enemy in the game, with two types that players will encounter frequently: Regular Bokoblins (Red) and Blue Bokoblins. They can be easily defeated and are commonly found near the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower. Black and Silver Bokoblins, on the other hand, can be found in The Depths and at Monster Camps on The Surface. It is important to remember that Bokoblin Monster Parts are what the upgrades require, not Boss Bokoblins. However, players should keep in mind that Bokoblins may not always drop the required parts, so it's best to defeat as many as possible. Fortunately, Bokoblins, like other monsters, reset every Blood Moon, so players need not worry about running out of monsters to farm.

Amber is a widely available ore that can be harvested from most Ore Deposits, with the exception of Luminous Ore Deposits. However, it's important to note that the Hylian Set's higher level upgrades require a significant amount of Amber, ranging from 20-30 pieces. Despite its abundance, it may be wise to save your Amber for other Armor Upgrades. Don't forget, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
