Following the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, many players are still exploring the vast expanse of Hyrule, which is the largest ever seen in a Zelda game. The game offers a plethora of activities, ranging from heroic missions such as liberating tribes from Ganondorf's influence to simple tasks like assisting a Korok in finding their friend. Initially overwhelming, players will soon find their stride and begin completing quests and discovering Shrines throughout the kingdom.
Despite the game being available for some time now, new players are likely still joining the adventure. The extensive array of options in Tears of the Kingdom can be daunting for those unfamiliar with it. Luckily, compared to its predecessor Breath of the Wild, TotK provides clearer guidance on what players should prioritize. Utilizing the various tools prepared within the game will greatly assist newcomers in starting their journey on the right path in Tears of the Kingdom.
Explore the Great Sky Island
Visit Lookout Landing Early and Often
Following the introductory sequence, players are transported to a preliminary region known as the Great Sky Island. Isolated from the rest of Hyrule until they have successfully completed its challenges, this area serves as an ideal space to familiarize oneself with Tears of the Kingdom. In addition to this, it showcases the significant rewards that can be attained through exploration in the game. Here, players can hone their combat skills, gather resources, and become accustomed to utilizing their arm powers. Furthermore, they may stumble upon the highly valuable Warm Doublet, along with various Zonai structures such as a forge and a Device dispenser. Obtaining knowledge about these aspects early on can greatly facilitate navigation throughout the remaining territories of Hyrule.
Speaking of which, there is one location that players should make a beeline for after the Great Sky Island. It's Lookout Landing in Central Hyrule, situated in the ruins near the floating Hyrule Castle. This small fort will serve as your base of operations, offering new guidance, changes within the camp, and conveniences like a bed and cooking pot after every major story event. Progressing the main quest at Lookout Landing becomes necessary so that Link can acquire Tears of the Kingdom's all-important Paraglider.
Tour Central Hyrule, Then Head Northwest
Purah suggests that players commence their journey by making their way to Rito Village; however, there is no need to hurry. Central Hyrule offers challenges that are on par with the player's initial capabilities, thus it is important to thoroughly explore this area. Within the vast fields, there are numerous shrines and sidequests to discover. Additionally, locating Hestu and initiating the Great Fairies' Side Adventure will prove beneficial in the long term. As the players progress towards the northwest, they will encounter several Stables, each contributing to various Side Adventures. Finally, this path leads to Rito Village, where the recommended first dungeon awaits. Once players have completed these tasks, they will be prepared to explore the remaining regions of Tears of the Kingdom.
Follow Robbie and Josha’s Quests to the Depths
Having said that, there is another crucial milestone to reach early on. It may have been noticed that despite acquiring Link's primary abilities, certain sections of the menus remain empty. These particular functionalities are closely linked to the Sheikah scientist named Robbie. It is recommended to seek him out immediately at Lookout Landing. Embarking on his series of quests will not only grant rewards such as camera functionality, but also guidance from Josha at Lookout Landing towards obtaining the final arm power, as well as an additional Side Adventure following the completion of any dungeon. These quests serve to gradually familiarize newcomers with the Depths, leading them through the safest areas. Acquiring the final arm power is a significant enhancement to one's quality of life, so preparing for an early expedition into the Depths is highly advised.
