Jazbay grapes are commonly used in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for their alchemical properties, which include Weakness to Magic, Fortify Magicka, Regenerate Magicka, and Ravage Health. While Ravage Health is particularly useful against trolls and Restoration mages, overall, these grapes are not particularly notable.
However, this perception changes when players embark on the quest "Smooth Jazbay," where they are required to collect 20 of these grapes at once. During this quest, players will quickly realize that obtaining jazbay grapes can be surprisingly challenging compared to other readily available ingredients found on road sides, caves, and cairns. Fortunately, there is a dependable source of jazbay grapes in one specific area of Skyrim.
Smooth Jazbay
After visiting Blackreach as part of the main quest, players are likely to receive a request. Within the cave system grows a special plant known as crimson nirnroot, and picking one up initiates the quest "A Return to Your Roots." To complete this quest, players must locate a dark elf named Avrusa Sarethi and provide her with a substantial amount of crimson nirnroots.
Additionally, players have the option to speak to Avrusa on her farm either before or after completing "A Return to Your Roots" and offer their assistance. She will request a total of 20 jazbay grapes, sparking the minor quest "Smooth Jazbay." Upon the completion of this quest, Avrusa will reward players with five random potions, the potency of which is determined by their level.
Jazbay in the Wild
Jazbay grapes can be purchased at apothecary shops and found in ingredient piles in owned houses, but their wild counterparts exclusively grow in the Eastmarch region of Skyrim. Specifically, they thrive in the volcanic tundra area located just south of Windhelm.
Identifiable by their yellow-brown leaves, jazbay grape bushes grow very close to the ground. In the enclosed image, the jazbay grape bushes have been marked with circles. The purple grapes can be observed on the bushes, although they are challenging to spot unless players are in close proximity.
To find an abundant supply of jazbay grapes, head south from Windhelm into the volcanic region. Jazbay bushes thrive on flat rocky outcroppings and paved roads, so make sure to search both areas. Take caution while exploring this region as there are several giant camps present, with Steamcrag Camp being particularly close to the road.
While jazbay grapes may be scarce elsewhere in Skyrim, they can be easily gathered from the volcanic springs of Eastmarch. Once players are familiar with the appearance of the bushes, they should have no difficulty collecting twenty or even more grapes.
