Sundelions, a newly introduced plant in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, play a crucial role in cooking recipes that counteract the harmful effects of the Gloom unleashed upon Hyrule during the Upheaval. While the Gloom mainly resides in the underground Depths, players may come across dangerous Gloom Hands enemies in pools on Hyrule's surface. Additionally, the entrances to the chasms leading to the Depths are also tainted by the Gloom.
When Link is affected by the Gloom, he not only loses health but also finds his heart containers cracked, making them irreplaceable or restorable until the Gloom is eradicated. Consuming food with the "Sunny" prefix, crafted using Sundelions, proves to be an effective way to heal these damaged hearts. Sundelions also play a significant role in quests, such as Mattison's Independence and Gloom-Borne Illness.
Where to Find Sundelions in Tears of the Kingdom
For efficient Sundelion gathering, it is advisable to visit the Sky Islands floating above Hyrule's surface. These islands have the highest concentration of Sundelions. To make the process easier, activate the fast travel points for all shrines on the Sky Islands, allowing for convenient teleportation and regular collection of Sundelions from each island. Crafting a reliable and efficient flying device would greatly benefit the player in reaching undiscovered islands and their shrines.
To further enhance the Sundelion farming experience on a sky island, players may consider constructing a flying vehicle using Zonai devices. This will facilitate easier travel between nearby islands. Most larger islands provide the necessary vehicle parts or have Zonai Device Dispensers where players can obtain the required devices. Below are some of the prime locations for Sundelion farming in Tears of the Kingdom.
South Eldin Sky Archipelago
To access the sky islands, players have two options: they can either launch and glide from the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower, situated at Coordinates (1637, 1184, 0225), or make use of the fast travel feature to reach Kadaunar Shrine. The presence of an abundance of Zonai Devices and a convenient minecart rail system makes navigation between these islands a breeze, allowing players to gather an average of 13-15 Sundelions. Considered the ultimate farming spot for a significant quantity of Sundelions with minimal effort, players should make it a habit to regularly return and check if the plants have respawned.
East Gerudo Sky Archipelago
If players have unlocked the fast travel point at Rakashog Shrine, they can easily access the sky islands. Otherwise, they should launch from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and glide east towards the islands. The distance to the main islands is quite far, so it may be necessary for the player to make a pit stop on the closest island at Coordinates (-2230, -2377, 1120). Once there, players can gather a few Sundelion and use Zonai Gliders, Fans, and Rockets to craft a vehicle and attempt to reach the large island.
The larger island consists of a Zonai Device Dispenser, while the lower island features numerous rocket Zonai devices that can be combined with adjacent components to construct a more potent, though potentially tumultuous, flying contraption. This vehicle can be utilized to access the nearby South Hyrule Sky Archipelago and gather additional Sundelions.
Courage Island
To reach the small sky island known as Courage Island, located at Coordinates (-2212, 0955,1637), players need to teleport to Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower. From there, they can glide southwest to reach the island. Alternatively, if they have unlocked it, they can fast travel to Taunhiy Shrine. Once on the island, players can collect the Sundelions and then descend to the lowest island, which features a large round pool. Here, they can speak with the Steward Construct and accept his challenge to earn a piece of the Glide Armor set.
