Sapphires Location (Where to Farm)Where to Find & Defeat a Frost Talus
Sapphires, unlike common gems like Amber and Opal, are more valuable and therefore it is advisable to either sell or save them for armor upgrades. These rare gems can be obtained by mining ore deposits on The Surface and the Sky Islands in the Tears of the Kingdom. Merchants often offer low prices for common gems, so it is recommended to avoid selling Sapphires to them.
Sapphires Location (Where to Farm)
Tears of the Kingdom has brought about a significant upheaval that has resulted in an increased abundance of ore deposits in the Hyrule region. Fans who have returned may have already noticed that rare gems such as Sapphires are being sold for a lower price compared to their counterparts in Breath of the Wild. Additionally, the availability of Sapphires has become more challenging as they only drop from a specific type of ore deposit, making them harder to find.
Sapphires can be farmed from Rare Ore Deposits or Taluses:
Rare Ore Deposits are distinguishable from regular ore deposits by the presence of golden ore protruding from them. Breaking these deposits provides players with the opportunity to acquire rarer gemstones such as Diamonds, Rubies, and, of course, Sapphires. However, the drop rate for Sapphires from Rare Ore Deposits is slightly lower than that of Rubies and Topaz. In some cases, breaking open a deposit may yield nothing more than a piece of Amber or Flint. While not the most reliable method for obtaining Sapphires, it is the more commonly utilized approach.
Alternatively, players have the option to purchase Sapphires in Goron City for a sum of 600 Rupees per Sapphire.
Defeating a Frost Talus or a Stone Talus (Rare) may drop Sapphires and other rare gems. Frost Taluses have a higher chance of dropping Sapphires than any other gem.
Where to Find & Defeat a Frost Talus
Stone Talus (Rare) can be found relatively easily in Hyrule compared to their Frost Talus counterparts. However, if players are specifically looking to farm Sapphires, they should seek out a Frost Talus instead. Fortunately, there is a Frost Talus located to the west of the Sisun Shrine at coordinates -2690, 3351, 0240. In order to unlock the Sisun Shrine, players must defeat this formidable creature and obtain the Green Shrine Crystal.
To face the Frost Taluses in the frigid Hebra Mountains, players should prepare themselves accordingly. The Snowquill Set, available for purchase in Rito Village, is a wise choice. However, players can also ensure warmth by equipping the ancient Warm Greaves and wielding a flame-infused weapon, such as one fused with an Igneo Talus Heart or a Ruby.
Alternatively, players can counter the cold by cooking a meal that incorporates hot ingredients, like Spicy Peppers. It is essential to bring Fire Fruit or other materials and weapons that utilize fire. Additionally, don't overlook the importance of wearing cold-resistant armor.
To further enhance the battle strategy, players may consider bringing a weapon specifically designed to combat stone or ore deposits. This could be a Cobble Crusher or any weapon fused with a boulder or iron ball.
Here's how to defeat Frost Taluses:
Trying to climb a Frost Talus will cause Link to freeze instantly. To warm it up, toss a Fire Fruit (or fuse a Fire Fruit with an arrow) at the Talus' body.
When the body of the Talus has warmed up, ascend to the gem/ore deposit located on its head.
Should the Frost Talus freeze its body eventually, simply toss another Fire Fruit towards its body or arms.
If Link is having difficulty maintaining balance on top of the Talus, an effective technique is to attach Bomb Flowers to arrows and shoot them at its ore deposit.
Once the Frost Talus is successfully defeated, it will yield a Frost Talus Heart and any of the following gems:
Sapphires
Opals
Diamonds
Flint
The Frost Talus Heart has the ability to be combined with either a melee weapon or a shield. It is not possible to store the heart in Link's inventory, so players must decide to fuse it right away or simply leave it as is. When the Frost Talus Heart is fused, it imbues Link's weapon with the power of ice, granting him an additional ice attack. Moreover, it provides him with a level of heat-resistance, making it an excellent choice for wearing in the Gerudo Region.
Where to Use Sapphires
Sapphires can be used in three different ways:
They can be Fused to weapons or arrows.
They can be sold to a merchant* for 150 Rupees.
They can be used to enhance various pieces of armor.
* Link's Sapphire can be sold to a regular merchant for 150 Rupees each. However, if he gathers 10 Sapphires, he can instead sell them to a Gerudo merchant named Ramella in Goron City. Ramella is willing to buy 10 Sapphires for 1700 Rupees. It is important to note that Ramella also trades in Rubies, Diamonds, and Topaz. When she requests 10 Rubies, she will not move on to the next gem until Link provides them. Additionally, there are times when she asks for the same gem multiple times consecutively. While selling to Ramella offers a higher payout, it can be unreliable as it necessitates having 10 of three distinct gems.
Fusing a Sapphire onto a weapon or an arrow grants it the power of ice. These enchantments work best when applied to Magic Scepters and similar weapons. It's important to note that a Sapphire-weapon differs from an Ice-Breath Lizalfos Horn, as it functions more like a wand rather than a sword or lance.
Lastly, Sapphires are necessary for upgrading the following armor sets:
