Farming Dark Clumps for Gloom-Resistant UpgradesTears of the Kingdom brought forth a new range of materials that can be obtained by battling enemies, including the elusive Dark Clump. This substance can be found only from a particular enemy, and players must gather ample amounts of it to upgrade their armor or cook meals with gloom resistance. The Bargainer Statues are the go-to source for purchasing Dark Clumps, and players need to know where to use these Clumps effectively to gain maximum benefits. Additionally, there are various Dark Clump recipes that can be used to create dishes with unique abilities to combat gloom and phantom Ganon.
Exploring Tears of the Kingdom's Depths can be a perilous journey without the proper armor or buffs to shield Link from the oppressive gloom. Unfortunately, Dark Clumps, a necessary ingredient for such protection, are not easy to come by, with only two known methods of obtaining them, making them quite rare.
Defeat Gloom Spawns & Phantom Ganon
Defeating Gloom Spawns or Gloom Hands can reward Link with Dark Clumps, which are useful in crafting various items. These enemies can be quite challenging to deal with, but a couple of effective strategies can make the task easier. One option is to fuse Bomb Flowers to arrows, which can deal significant damage to Gloom Hands. Another approach is to use materials with area-of-effect (AoE) properties, such as elemental Chuchu Jelly. Although Gloom Hands typically appear in dark areas like caves, they can also be found in other locations. To help you locate them, here are some common spawn points to keep in mind.
Defeating Gloom Hands in the Lost Woods Depths may result in the appearance of Phantom Ganon, a formidable opponent that can pose a challenge even for experienced players. Unlike Gloom Hands that can be easily vanquished with Bomb Flower arrows, Phantom Ganon leaves a trail of gloom that hinders Link's movements and drains his health, making the battle even more daunting.
To effectively take down Phantom Ganon, players can utilize Flurry Rushes by timing Link's dodge or parry just before the boss attacks. This will slow down time, allowing players to strike by tapping the Y-button. Additionally, having a Sage Spirit can make the battle easier. Regardless of whether Link defeats Gloom Spawn/Hands or Phantom Ganon, both bosses will drop Dark Clumps.
Buy Dark Clumps from Bargainer Statues
Similar to other monsters and most treasure chests, Gloom Spawns and Phantom Ganon will reappear every time a Blood Moon occurs. To trigger the Blood Moon, players can defeat a group of enemies in a particular area. Alternatively, the Blood Moon will occur naturally after a seven-day cycle at 12:00am in-game.
Another way to obtain Dark Clumps is by purchasing them from the Bargainer Statues for a relatively low price of 10 Poes. While there is a Bargainer Statue located at Lookout Landing, there are actually six of them scattered throughout The Depths, making it easy for Link to acquire the necessary Poes and Dark Clumps. In fact, Dark Clumps become available as soon as Link interacts with his first Bargainer Statue, allowing for efficient farming in The Depths.
Where to Use Dark Clumps?
To level up The Depths Set to level 2, players must obtain Dark Clumps. Players will need five of these clumps for each piece of Depths armor. While the armor provides Gloom Resistance, the Set Bonus offers Gloom Attack Resist, making it worthwhile for players to hold onto 15 Dark Clumps to fully upgrade the set and reap its benefits. Alternatively, those who have already upgraded their Depths Set can use Dark Clumps in cooking recipes to achieve Gloom Resistance effects, similar to Monster Extract. This is especially helpful for players who do not have any Gloom armor in their inventory.

Players have the option to extend the duration of Gloom Resistance by incorporating more than one Dark Clump in their recipe. They can prepare their meals using cooking pots at the fireside or the Zonai Dispensers' Portable Cooking Pots. The following meals can be created by using Dark Clumps:
When cooking Dark Clump, it's important to remember that preparing it on its own will only result in Dubious Food, with no beneficial effects and a mere one-heart restoration. Unlike fruits or meats, Dark Clump must be incorporated into a recipe to obtain Gloom Resistance. By the way, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can now be experienced on Nintendo Switch.
