Skyrim has captivated fans for over a decade, providing endless entertainment in its vast open world. Whether playing for the first time or returning for the 10th anniversary edition, players can easily lose themselves in the immersive experience. To enhance gameplay, it is recommended to acquire a home in one of the major cities. These homes serve as a convenient base for storing items, cooking meals, and even visiting the Dragonborn's spouse if they are married.
However, before purchasing property in a specific hold, players must first earn the prestigious title of Thane. In the case of Solitude, the capital of Skyrim, acquiring this title requires more effort compared to other holds. This guide will assist players in navigating the process of becoming Thane of Solitude while also avoiding any potential bugs or glitches.
Clear Wolfskull Cave
Players must enter the Blue Palace in order to initiate the Thane questline. Within the court, Varnius Junius will be seeking assistance on a cave near Dragon Bridge. It is important not to disrupt this conversation, as it could potentially interfere with The Man Who Cried Wolf quest. Once Varnius has presented his plea, approach Falk Firebeard to acquire the quest. If Falk does not offer the necessary dialogue option, proceed to the Winking Skeever Inn and inquire about rumors to obtain a task that can kickstart the quest. If players have already commenced the Tending the Flames quest for the Bards College, they may first need to complete it in order for Varnius to address the court.
Visit the Shrine of Talos
After receiving the quest from Falk, it is imperative for the player to embark on a journey to Wolfskull Cave. Within the dark depths of the cave, a troupe of necromancers awaits, fervently attempting to summon an ancient malevolence. Be prepared to encounter formidable foes such as Draugr and Necromancers, who can unleash considerable spell damage upon the Dragonborn. However, it should be noted that these nefarious sorcerers possess feeble armor. The primary objective is to put an end to their ominous ritual and subsequently return to Falk in order to claim a well-deserved reward.
Speak to Jarl Elisif, and she will ask a favor of the Dragonborn. The player must take her husband's war horn to the Shrine of Talos.
The shrine is located above Shimmermist Cave to the east of Whiterun. Place the horn on the altar and return to Jarl Elisif.
Buy Proudspire Manor
Players can then buy the most expensive house in all of Skyrim. Proudspire Manor can be purchased with 25000 Gold by speaking to Falk Firebeard.
Assist Five Citizens
Assisting the citizens in the vicinity is the final requirement in achieving the esteemed title of Thane in every hold. To accomplish this, players are obligated to lend aid to five individuals and acquire Proudspire Manor. Once these tasks are completed, they can then approach the jarl to be officially bestowed with the Thane title and the revered Blade of Haafingar. Here are the specific citizens who are in need of assistance.
