The Ultimate Force Unleashed: Star Wars Introduces a Villain of Unimaginable Proportions

Unleashing an unimaginable evil, Star Wars hints at the arrival of an unparalleled villain Delve into the potential return of Abeloth, the most formidable adversary in the Star Wars universe Could the Mortis Gods and Peridea hold the key to her imprisonment?

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 8

Summary

In Star Wars, Ahsoka's final episode hints at the resurgence of Abeloth, a formidable cosmic being associated with the Force deities called the Ones of Mortis.

Baylan Skoll's quest for supremacy on the extragalactic realm of Peridea implies that Abeloth is summoning him, as he endeavors to disrupt the perpetual cycle between light and darkness within the galaxy.

The Ones' massive statues on Peridea support the theory that the planet might be Abeloth's prison or her original world before the Force gods abandoned her.

Ahsoka has reintroduced one of the most formidable villains in Star Wars, who surpasses the power of the Force itself. The finale episode of Ahsoka hints at a significant presence enticing Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) on the extragalactic planet of Peridea. Consequently, there is a high likelihood of a monumental new threat looming in the future of Star Wars, surpassing even the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn to the known galaxy.

Seeking a power that exists only in myth and fairytales, Baylan Skoll is determined to break the endless cycle of light and darkness in the galaxy. Instead of seeking to restore the Empire through Thrawn's return, Baylan has his own intentions once he reaches Peridea - the legendary homeworld of the Nightsisters in a different galaxy. A significant clue in Ahsoka's conclusion implies that Baylan is being influenced by Abeloth, a powerful cosmic being from the Legends, associated with the Mortis Ones - a trio of Force deities introduced in The Clone Wars and now making their return in this new Star Wars series.

Abeloth Is The Most Powerful Villain Star Wars Has Ever Created

Once a mortal woman, Abeloth joined the Ones in their quest for balance. She served as the Mother, alongside the Father and their children, the Son and Daughter. However, while her family remained immortal, Abeloth continued to age. Desperate to regain her youth, she made the fateful choice to consume the forbidden Font of Power and Pool of Knowledge.

Baylan's Call Would Fit Perfectly With Abeloth

Abeloth, formerly known as The Mother, underwent a transformation into a powerful entity called the Force being. This transformation granted her immense power, but also corrupted her mind, driving her to madness. In light of her corrupt nature and the rapid deterioration of the world, the Father and his children, the Son and Daughter, decided to leave Abeloth behind and seek refuge on Mortis. Recognizing the need to restrain Abeloth, the Ones constructed a prison to contain her. However, she would manage to break free whenever there was a significant disturbance in the balance of the Force. To re-imprison her, the Son and Daughter had to join forces. After the demise of the Mortis gods in The Clone Wars season 3, Abeloth was permanently unleashed during the New Republic era.

Taking into account Abeloth and her Legends' narrative, it appears that Ahsoka is likely preparing for her return to the official Star Wars canon in the near future. Baylan, possibly driven by the intimidating hidden power that even caused fear in the formidable Great Mothers of the Nightsisters, may be on a quest to find Abeloth herself. The fact that the Great Mothers possess immense power and magic makes it evident that this enigmatic entity must be exceptionally perilous, and Abeloth perfectly fits the description. This could potentially explain the submissive behavior of the Mothers towards Grand Admiral Thrawn, as he is their sole means of escaping Peridea.

Abeloth's imprisonment may have contributed to the downfall of the witch kingdom and the planet's transformation into a wasteland. Over time, her influence and containment could have corrupted the kingdom. This could also explain the altered migration routes of the purrgil star whales in the ancient past, as they now only come to Peridea to die. Consequently, the planet's rings are composed solely of the whales' bones.

It is not difficult to understand how Abeloth's and Baylan's goals could align. They both desire to create a new era in the galaxy, free from the constant conflict between light and dark. Abeloth could easily manipulate Baylan into releasing her (if she hasn't already broken free). After descending into madness, Abeloth sought to bring about a galactic apocalypse in order to establish a new galaxy where she would be adored, despite being a being of pure chaos and entropy. Therefore, it is highly plausible that Abeloth has reached out to Baylan.

The Mortis Gods Are Tied To Peridea - Is This Abeloth's Prison?

Abeloth had already been speculated as the mysterious being reaching out to Baylan Skoll prior to Ahsoka's conclusion. The recent discovery of colossal statues depicting the gods of Mortis greatly supports this notion for the future of Star Wars. It is evident that the Ones held significant influence over Peridea, possibly serving as Abeloth's prison or original realm before she was forsaken by the Force gods in favor of Mortis. The novels describe this unknown world as a "mountainous forest world," reminiscent of the valley Baylan stumbles upon in Ahsoka. It could be among the few remaining areas untouched by Abeloth's corrupting impact on Peridea.

In the final scenes of Ahsoka's finale, we witness the Father statue pointing towards the mountains on the opposite side of the valley. Notably, one peak bears a luminous beacon or glimmer, symbolizing the destination of Baylan's journey and the source of the mysterious calling he has experienced since arriving in Peridea. In his quest, he has completely abandoned Morgan Elsbeth's attempts to bring back Thrawn and even turned away from his own apprentice, Shin Hati. It is highly likely that Baylan will uncover more than he bargained for, particularly if it leads him to encounter Abeloth.

Abeloth is expected to make her return to the Star Wars universe, possibly in Ahsoka season 2 or another upcoming Star Wars project. It is anticipated that the Force will need both the light and dark sides to unite in order to have any chance of containing or eliminating Abeloth. Baylan Skoll's findings in the finale of Ahsoka have made the future of Star Wars even more thrilling and perilous. All episodes of Ahsoka can be streamed on Disney+.
