This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 6.
Summary
Baylan Skoll is convinced that a mighty cosmic being in Peridea has summoned him, with the potential to put an end to the ongoing conflict between light and dark forces.
In Peridea, it is widely speculated that the return of Abeloth, a formidable entity of the dark side from Legends, through the Star Wars universe, may serve as the ultimate embodiment of evil.
However, there are various other theories that draw inspiration from the captivating concepts of Star Wars Legends. In episode 6 of Ahsoka, a revelation unfolds as Baylan Skoll becomes aware of a powerful force beckoning him from Peridea. This leads to speculation and discussion surrounding the potential nature of this phenomenon. Despite reaching the sixth episode, Ahsoka continues to maintain an air of secrecy around its true narrative. In this particular episode, the antagonists successfully traverse the pathway to Peridea and encounter Grand Admiral Thrawn and three formidable Nightsisters, known as the Great Mothers. Nevertheless, the episode also drops subtle hints suggesting the existence of an even greater threat lurking within Peridea.
Baylan Skoll, portrayed by the late Ray Stevenson, a Dark Jedi, embarks on a journey to Peridea driven by his personal motives. He believes that he has been summoned by an ancient and cosmic entity. His hope is that this entity will bring an end to the perpetual war between the light and dark sides. Baylan perceives Thrawn and the Great Mothers' desire to leave Peridea as an attempt to escape from a force greater than themselves. Presumably, this force is the entity that has beckoned Baylan. If his assumptions are correct, then the true malevolence of Peridea remains hidden, which surpasses the prowess of the Empire's esteemed tactician and even the intimidating powers of three Nightsister witches that would give Palpatine pause. Numerous theories abound regarding the identity or nature of this creature.
7 Star Wars Could Be Bringing Back A Legends Being Called Abeloth
6 Star Wars Could Be Introducing A Creature Called A Malmourral
The prevailing theory suggests that Star Wars is reintroducing Abeloth, a formidable entity of the dark side, from Star Wars Legends. Known as the Bringer of Chaos, in Legends, Abeloth served as a follower of the Mortis Gods before assuming the role of Mother, thereby aiding in upholding the balance of the Force. Despite being a mortal, she aspired to eternal existence by remaining with her father, but this desire came at a tremendous cost. Through her pursuit of dark side power, Abeloth succumbed to corruption, transforming into the most influential entity of the dark side in existence. According to Legends, Abeloth was imprisoned within the black hole cluster referred to as the Maw. It is conceivable that, within the Star Wars canon, she was cast away to the planet Peridea, located in a distant galaxy.
Peridea functions as the ancestral home of the Nightsisters of Dathomir. During the sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a connection was established between them and the ancient legends surrounding a malevolent entity known as the Malmourral. Mace Windu and Jar Jar Binks joined forces in a captivating two-part mission that led them to uncover a clandestine cult on Bardotta. This cult was devoted to the illicit act of siphoning the Living Force from individuals and channeling it directly into the enigmatic Nightsister known as Mother Talzin. Evidently, the initial incantations were conducted within a grand temple erected in honor of the fearsome Malmourral. It is worth noting that the Nightsister blade owned by Mother Talzin incorporated a remarkably unique handle shaped in resemblance of this awe-inspiring dragon-like demon.
The Nightsisters have always been known for their ability to steal the Force from others. It is possible that the Malmourral, beings thought to be a mere myth, actually exist and serve as the source of the Nightsisters' magick. If this is indeed the case, then it is conceivable that one Malmourral could be dormant on Peridea, awaiting the awakening brought by Baylan. The consequences of this event could potentially unleash a cosmic force that surpasses the power of the Nightsisters and impacts the entire galaxy.
5 Star Wars Could Bring Back A Powerful Member Of The Zeffo
In Ahsoka episode 6, a fascinating Star Wars Easter egg unravels the connection between the Nightsisters and the Zeffo race. The runes discovered at the Nightsister temple on Peridea are devoted to Kujet, an ancient Zeffo who constructed a magnificent palace on Dathomir long before the Jedi came into existence. This suggests that Kujet possibly reigned over an intergalactic empire, with the Nightsisters from both galaxies paying tribute to his legacy.
The inscription in Kujet's honor has typically been translated as "(P)RAISE KUJET RULER OF ALL MAY HIS REIGN LAST FOR AL..." However, it is important to acknowledge that translators added the first letter for coherence. Alternatively, it is possible that it should be read as "RAISE KUJET" - suggesting that Peridea is a convergence in the Force where it is conceivable to resurrect this ancient Zeffo, who passed away more than 25,000 years ago. Given the Nightsisters' association with resurrection magic, it would be logical for their homeworld to function as such a convergence.
4 Could Ahsoka Be Introducing The Canon Yuuzhan Vong?
The origins of the Yuuzhan Vong can be traced back to Star Wars Legends where they served as prominent adversaries in the renowned "New Jedi Order" book series. Initially perceived as originating from outside the galaxy, the Yuuzhan Vong were banished from the main Star Wars universe countless millennia ago, and they were also severed from the power of the Force. Distinguished by their reliance on bio-engineered lifeforms rather than conventional technology, it is conceivable that a canonical version of their extragalactic nature could have been achieved through their manipulation of purrgil. Star Wars almost introduced the Yuuzhan Vong in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, albeit as beings connected to the Force (George Lucas hesitated to portray them as detached from it). It is plausible that Baylan is sensing something associated with the dormant Yuuzhan Vong, and this could potentially lead to their reawakening.
3 Is Star Wars Bringing Back The Bendu?
An enigmatic and formidable entity introduced in Star Wars Rebels, the Bendu defied categorization as either a force for good or evil, instead identifying itself as "the one in the middle." This potent being declined to join the Rebel Alliance in their struggle, but they were provoked to take action against Grand Admiral Thrawn's forces. Limited knowledge exists about the Bendu, although their name is shared with an ancient group of Force-sensitive individuals believed to have preceded the Jedi Order. It is plausible that the Bendu were originally a species of these beings, and it is rumored that one of them lies dormant on Peridea. If indeed true, Thrawn would undoubtedly be wise to avoid crossing its path.
2 Star Wars' New Villain Could Be A KOTOR Reference
Baylan believes he has journeyed to the very origin of the ancient conflict between light and darkness, with the intention of putting an end to the ceaseless cycles that have engulfed the galaxy for countless ages. Numerous observers have drawn comparisons between his objective and that of Kreia, a Sith Lord in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic who aimed to eradicate the very essence of the Force. While not identical, the parallels are significant enough to raise the possibility that Baylan has stumbled upon a Force convergence possessing similar attributes to those sought by Kreia.
1 Ahsoka's Real Villain Could Have Been Sensed By Palpatine Decades Earlier
Finally, Baylan may have detected a powerful focal point of the dark side itself, similar to the one Palpatine sensed many years ago. In Chuck Wendig's novel Aftermath: Empire's End, a significant scene takes place where one of Palpatine's most trusted advisors reflects on the Dark Times of his rule.
According to this trusted confidant, the Emperor strongly believed that something awaited him beyond - an origin of the Force, an ominous presence made of nefarious essence. He claimed to sense its pervasive energy now that the path was clear. The Emperor referred to it as a signal which conveniently only he could perceive. Even Vader, his most formidable enforcer who also professed mastery over the dark Force, appeared ignorant of it. Rax, however, believed Palpatine had succumbed to madness.
Palpatine had a belief that he was detecting a presence from the Unknown Regions towards the Galactic Rim. However, it is possible that he was actually being summoned by something much more distant. Baylan's statements bear resemblance to Palpatine's, and his apprentice, Shin, lacks the ability to sense anything just like Darth Vader did. Therefore, there could be a potential connection here. If this holds true, Baylan is in search of what the Emperor referred to as the "source of the Force, a malevolent entity formed from darkness." This aligns with Baylan's conviction that he has journeyed to the very origin of the eternal conflict between light and darkness.
