There are indications that World of Warcraft may be making a major modification to its Trading Post, leaving fans concerned about the potential implications. If the assets that have been uncovered point to what fans suspect, there could be a significant negative response.
Introduced earlier this year, the Trading Post enables players to acquire Trader's Tender and use it to purchase a selection of rotating cosmetic items. However, with a monthly limit of 1,000 Trader's Tender, the flow of currency is restricted by time.
Recent discoveries by World of Warcraft enthusiasts suggest that there may be changes to the method of obtaining Trader's Tender in the future. In the Patch 10.1.5 Public Test Realm for Dragonflight, icons representing more than a dozen denominations of this currency have been found. These icons resemble those found in the WoW cash shop, and the files have been named "interface/store/shopcurrencyoverlay.blp," which indicates that they may be featured in the in-game store.
Although some World of Warcraft developers who work on the Trading Post have acknowledged the existence of these assets, they cannot yet disclose what they are for, indicating that Blizzard is still working on their purpose. While it is possible that Trader's Tender may become available for purchase in the in-game store, there is no official announcement to confirm this.
World of Warcraft fans have expressed strong opposition to the idea of being able to buy Trader’s Tender on the cash shop, as they see the Trading Post's broad collection of cosmetic choices as one of the game's most appealing features. Critics argue that monetizing the Trading Post in this manner would be excessively avaricious and could potentially transform it into a secondary cash shop, which would ruin its otherwise favorable reputation. However, it is possible that there is more to this alteration than what is readily apparent. The fact that there are assets for every increment of 50 Trader’s Tender between 200 and 1,000, instead of only large, even amounts, implies that they may not be intended for direct purchase from the store. In light of the fact that recent WoW cash shop items are being added to the Trading Post at a later date, some players are speculating that they will advertise the number of Trader’s Tender required to purchase these items when they become available, or allow players to buy certain cash shop items with in-game currency. In any case, the specifics of this change will be revealed when World of Warcraft releases an official statement in the near future.
