Whitney Port addressed the criticism surrounding her selective eating habits, dismissing any notions of it being related to nutritional concerns or weight gain. On her "With Whit" podcast episode on Tuesday, August 1, the 38-year-old clarified that her aversion to pasta is solely based on its texture.
The former reality star recalled how her time on The Hills influenced her complicated relationship with food.
Whitney Port, who appeared on the MTV series "The Hills" from 2006 to 2008, revealed that seeing herself on TV for the first time was a wake-up call. Previously only consuming 1000 calories a day, she felt a bit shocked and wanted to lose weight. This self-reflection, prompted by being on television, led to her developing control issues over her appearance. However, Port emphasized that this control does not necessarily relate to her weight and is something she should reflect on further.
Port continued, "In regards to my weight, my main focus is on feeling attractive. However, it's crucial for me to determine what being attractive truly means to me and whether those ideals align with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The key takeaway here is that I'm actively engaging in self-reflection, which I believe is the initial step towards progress."
Throughout the episode, Port acknowledged her notable improvements in terms of her dietary habits.
"I've been indulging in unhealthy food during my vacation, consuming calories through pizza, ice cream, and french fries, among other things. However, once I return home, I desire to adopt a more mindful approach to my eating habits. I want to nourish my body with the right nutrients and also engage in exercises that promote muscle growth. So I'm committed to making these changes. I want to express my gratitude to all of you for caring and showing love and support. I appreciate the restraint shown by not jumping to conclusions or judging me. This online community means a lot to me."
"I’ve received numerous comments about my appearance, suggesting that I look too thin," she wrote in her Instagram Story on July 24. "Initially, it didn't bother me much as I assumed people were unaware of my diet. However, my husband Tim Rosenman, being a caring spouse, brought it up and made me realize that it wasn't just random criticism. He has been genuinely concerned about my well-being."
During that time, Port stated that she hadn't been consciously fixating on her body, mentioning, "I eat to nourish myself, rather than focusing on appearance. However, after stepping on the scale, it struck me. It's not a goal I set for myself. I constantly feel hungry, yet I struggle with deciding what to eat. This isn't how I desire to look or feel. I often make excuses, such as prioritizing laziness or being excessively particular about taste and quality. I don't want to set an unhealthy example, so I made a promise to Timmy and I'll extend that promise to all of you; my health will be a top priority."
Port has since offered an update on the progress she has been making with her eating habits.
On Tuesday's podcast episode, she acknowledged that she often complains about her lack of energy. She realized that part of the problem is not prioritizing her own needs. The influx of concern from her attentive listeners and close friends, while heartwarming and aligned with her mission to share her experiences, has also made her apprehensive about burdening others with her issues. She believes that the situation may not be as significant as it appears.
