The Shocking One Tree Hill Scene Sophia Bush Absolutely Despised: Unbelievably Intense!

Sophia Bush did not hide her dislike for the storyline involving Brooke and Lucas in the 100th episode of "One Tree Hill." During an episode of the "Drama Queens" podcast on Monday, August 7, with cohosts Hilarie Burton Morgan and Bethany Joy Lenz, Bush, 41, openly expressed her thoughts. She mentioned that the storyline never made sense to her and she anticipated what was coming once it began, especially because it revolved around Brooke's desire to have a child.

In the 100th episode of the WB/CW drama, Brooke Davis, played by Bush, openly expresses her desire to have a child at 22 years old, following the accomplishment of her career goals. However, Bush found her character's storyline to be unusual and disagreed with the notion that having a baby could simply fill a void in her character's life. She emphasized that a baby should not be seen as a quick fix.

Furthermore, Bush criticized the episode for its underlying misogyny, attributing it to the absence of women writers involved in its creation. Notably, the credits only listed Mark Schwahn as the sole writer of this significant episode. It is worth mentioning that multiple women, including Bush, Burton Morgan, Lenz, and several others who had roles in the drama's nine-season run, accused Schwahn of inappropriate behavior starting in 2017.

"And, by the way, you can see who wrote this episode as a solo writer and the blatant sexism oozing from it with phrases like, 'I'm so unfulfilled, I'm successful but I'm empty inside because as a woman I can't possibly find happiness unless I have a baby,'" asserted Bush. "This entire episode reeks of an absence of female writers in the room to provide a necessary edit or polish to its repugnance."

Sophia Bush's character, Brooke, dated Lucas, played by Chad Michael Murray, in high school. Brooke's best friend, Peyton, portrayed by Burton, also had romantic feelings for Lucas. In the 100th episode, Brooke knew about Peyton's feelings and supported their potential relationship. However, during that episode, Brooke also expressed her desire for Lucas to be the sperm donor for her child.

“It’s all so repulsive — and we already know the reasons why — but yuck and personally, it's just too much for me,” she remarked. “I mean, Brooke Davis has always had clear boundaries and a strong bond with Lucas. She's also Peyton’s biggest supporter. That's my loyalty, my rock. I would never, and I know Brooke would never, say something like, ‘I'm aware you're in love with someone else and about to get married, but can I just ask you for a quick favor to donate some organic material so I can have a baby with you.’”

Bush acknowledged that Brooke’s decision appeared to be completely out of character for her.

"I must confess, I was truly infuriated back then, and I remain infuriated to this day. The situation lacked any connection to reality," she confessed. "I despised every single minute of it, and frankly, it's completely irrational. Brooke possesses a multimillion-dollar company, do you really think she cannot afford to obtain a semen sample from a reputable cryobank in North Carolina for around $1200?"
