James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti, the co-creators of Everyone Is Doing Great, may not always see eye to eye when it comes to the direction of their comedy series. However, they have a strong commitment to listen to each other's perspectives.
"We definitely have our creative disagreements, but what's important is that we prioritize our friendship," Lafferty, 37, shared exclusively with We on Tuesday, June 20, as he promoted his partnership with Smirnoff ICE during their Relaunch Tour. "Ultimately, it boils down to whoever has the most passion for a particular idea. There's something significant about that."
The One Tree Hill actors, who starred together on the WB drama from 2007 to 2012, started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in 2018 to raise funds for their new series. Lafferty and the former Laguna Beach star, 37, collaborate as writers and producers for the show. The storyline revolves around the lives of Jeremy (Lafferty), Seth (Colletti), Andrea (Alexandra Park), and Izzy (Cariba Heine) as they navigate their paths after the conclusion of their popular vampire TV series. Season 2 made its debut at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival earlier this week.
Lafferty, who tied the knot with Park in May 2022, revealed to Us that the second installment of the comedy showcases a greater presence of his wife and Heine compared to the first season.
The intention was always to incorporate them heavily into the show right from the start. They possess a remarkable combination of humor, talent, and charm. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, we weren't able to have them fully involved in season 1. However, in season 2, the focus will predominantly be on the four characters and their interactions.
Lafferty expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with Park on the show, considering it a privilege. "Our first year of marriage has been quite eventful as we've been dedicated to season 2," he shared. "It's been an exhilarating journey, though challenging at times. This is where we truly excel, and it brings us closer together when we engage in what we love collectively."
Lafferty has not rewatched One Tree Hill, the show that made him famous. He has seen some episodes here and there, but watching it from start to finish feels like watching a video of his high school experience. He was young and still growing up during that time, and watching himself age on the show feels a bit awkward to him.
During his time on OTH, the director expressed his hesitation in binge-watching the teen drama. However, he described it as a "beautiful, beautiful experience" that he truly values. Being the youngest person on set, he felt the need to be exceptionally professional. At the start of the show, Lafferty was underage and couldn't drink. Nonetheless, he reminisced about seeing Smirnoff ICE and eagerly anticipated turning 21 so he could finally enjoy one.
The Oculus actor will attend the Los Angeles stop of the Smirnoff ICE Relaunch Tour on Thursday, June 22. The event will feature performances by Steve Aoki and Elena Rose. All ticket sales will support Women in Music, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women in the music industry.
"I'm looking forward to a fantastic concert and enjoying a refreshing beverage," expressed Lafferty about the upcoming event. "It feels like it's been a while since I've had a Smirnoff ICE. It's great to see it back in a big way, just in time for summer. It's the perfect way to cool off and enjoy something refreshing."
