Summary
The expansion of Ahsoka's story reveals the potential involvement of Luke Skywalker and the New Republic Era in the Star Wars universe.
With Leia Organa's connection to Ahsoka's narrative, it becomes evident that Luke's participation is essential, particularly due to her knowledge about fallen Jedi supporting Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Thrawn's return and Baylan Skoll's hit list targeting the Skywalker family make it clear that Luke will have to intervene to protect himself and his loved ones. This inevitably results in his return to the Star Wars universe.
The story of Ahsoka is expanding across the Star Wars galaxy, including a new one. Along the way, it continues to provide more evidence that points to Luke Skywalker. As Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan, Ahsoka (played by Rosario Dawson) has a connection to the Skywalker family. Her past has not only been mentioned in this series but also portrayed, as demonstrated in Ahsoka episode 5 where she relives some of her memories from the Clone Wars era with Anakin. It was only a matter of time before the Skywalkers became part of Ahsoka's narrative.
Hayden Christensen's reprisal of Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka marks a significant milestone, expanding upon the brief mentions of the Skywalker lineage. However, with the inclusion of the New Republic and the current time period, it seems only natural for the remaining Skywalkers to become increasingly involved. Considering that Luke has already made his presence known in the New Republic Era and even crossed paths with Ahsoka, the narrative of Ahsoka appears to be laying the groundwork for his imminent participation.
Leia Organa Is Involved In Ahsoka's Story - So Luke Should Be Too
Leia's active participation in the Ahsoka storyline originates from her role in the New Republic. Initially, her involvement is hinted at when Carson Teva mentions her in episode 5 of Ahsoka. Teva reminds Hera that temporary cover for their unauthorized mission will not last long. In episode 7, Leia sends C-3PO in her place to assert that she did indeed authorize Hera's mission on Seatos. This demonstrates that Leia has become an integral part of Ahsoka's narrative, which is justifiable considering her position as the leader of the Defense Council for the New Republic.
Now, Luke should also be concerned about Leia's involvement in the events surrounding Seatos. If Hera has shared her comprehensive discoveries with Leia, it is highly likely that Leia has passed this significant information to Luke as well. Luke, as a prominent figure in both the rebuilding of the Jedi Order and the former Rebellion, deserves to be informed about fallen Jedi like Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati. The revelation that fallen Jedi have contributed to the resurgence of Grand Admiral Thrawn should undoubtedly capture Luke's attention and motivate him to participate, just like his sister.
Star Wars Is Doing One Of Luke's Biggest Post-OT Stories From Legends
The return of Thrawn in the post-Galactic Civil War era mirrors his original story in Legends, particularly his involvement with Luke in Heir to the Empire. This trilogy has greatly influenced the current New Republic Era of Star Wars, with characters like Jacen Syndulla adopting Jacen Solo's name and Captain Gilad Pellaeon making a brief appearance in The Mandalorian season 3.
Inevitably, Thrawn's comeback to the Star Wars galaxy in Ahsoka season 1 should involve Luke. It would be unrealistic to exclude him, considering his significant role in Heir to the Empire. While not everything will remain the same as the Legends trilogy, Luke's involvement deserves recognition.
Baylan Skoll Was Seemingly Hunting The Skywalkers
If Thrawn isn't the one to spur Luke into action in this tale, Baylan Skoll will surely do the job. Eagle-eyed viewers have unraveled Baylan's plot to target the Skywalker clan, carrying a wrist-bound list engraved with Aurebesh letters that depict it as target data. The names of Luke, Leia, Han, "Chewie," Ben, R2-D2, and C-3PO grace this ominous list, encompassing all those closely affiliated with Luke in the original Star Wars trilogy, including the loyal droids.
In this story, Baylan is inexorably drawing a direct line toward Luke. He possesses knowledge of Luke's father and is somehow privy to Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader, a fact far from commonplace in the galaxy. If Baylan is indeed intent on crossing paths with Luke at some point, it is inevitable that viewers will witness the Jedi's triumphant comeback, as he forges to protect himself and his cherished kin.
Ahsoka Tano & Luke Skywalker's Meeting Still Hasn't Been Revealed (But Should Be)
When Ahsoka and Luke reunite in episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett, it becomes apparent that they have crossed paths in the past. Ahsoka openly declares herself as a friend of the family, indicating her prior interactions with Luke. The details of their initial meeting have not been revealed by Star Wars yet. However, this moment holds significant importance and should be unveiled.
This narrative presents a perfect opportunity to delve into their shared history. Whether it is depicted through a flashback or through a nostalgic conversation between Ahsoka and Luke, Star Wars can easily recount how their paths first crossed. It is even possible that Ahsoka reaches out to Luke directly for assistance with Thrawn, considering his successes in destroying the Death Star and redeeming Darth Vader.
Will Luke Skywalker Be In The Mandalorian Movie?
It is inevitable that Luke will be part of The Mandalorian movie due to the numerous hints and references to him in Ahsoka and throughout the New Republic Era. He is a significant character and his deep ties to these events make it unlikely for him to not have at least a brief appearance. The inclusion of Thrawn's Legends story reinforces this belief and makes it feel impossible for Luke to be ignored in the transition to the big screen.
While The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett have already brought back Luke, it is Ahsoka that is taking the most steps towards involving him. His relevance to the events happening in the New Republic Era is increasing, and with that, the likelihood of his appearance in a theatrical Star Wars return. This not only serves the greater story of the galaxy but also provides an opportunity for Luke to meet potential students, setting up his sequel trilogy story.
It seems highly unlikely to create a movie during The Mandalorian era solely focusing on Thrawn without the inclusion of Luke Skywalker. As Luke has already made a comeback, the time has come to reintegrate him into the galaxy once again. Ahsoka's story intertwines with other members of the Skywalker family, indicating that the Jedi and Ahsoka are already working together in a well-established alliance. Considering that Thrawn could potentially threaten Luke's Jedi Temple on Ossus and the entire galaxy, it is expected that Skywalker would become involved, especially if the safety of his loved ones is at risk. Therefore, it appears that all signs are indicating Luke's return to the Star Wars universe, and it is hoped that it will occur on the big screen. New episodes of Ahsoka are released on Disney+ every Tuesday at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET.
