A new teaser for the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show has been released, creating a lot of excitement online. The show will feature Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan. Set in The Mandalorian era, it will introduce the live-action version of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a well-known Star Wars villain. Thrawn was originally introduced in Legends but has now become part of the official Star Wars canon. Lars Mikkelsen will portray Thrawn, who is depicted as one of the most dangerous adversaries in the galaxy.
Lucasfilm has unveiled a teaser video for Ahsoka, in which Rosario Dawson provides an introduction to the character. Interestingly, she also hints at the significance of Grand Admiral Thrawn, describing him as an "intergalactic threat."
Who Are Grand Admiral Thrawn's Mysterious Allies?
The comment is undeniably intriguing. Thrawn hails from the vast and unexplored Unknown Regions of the galaxy, and it is widely believed that he has been lost in that very sector of space for several years. However, there is a possibility that the hyperspace accident that removed Thrawn from known space also left him stranded beyond the outermost edges of the galaxy. It is here, in this remote region, that he may have formed new alliances. If this is the case, then Thrawn could be a forewarning of something far more sinister, which would explain the glimpses in Ahsoka trailers where she senses an impending "darkness." It is worth noting that Thrawn himself is not Force-sensitive, making it all the more peculiar for him to engender such a reaction from the Force.
Thrawn's discovery of new allies is strongly suggested by trailers and concept art. In these depictions, Thrawn is seen standing on a remarkable golden bridge, which possesses a distinct design unrelated to either the Empire or the inhabitants of the Unknown Regions. There has been speculation that this enigmatic vessel may be linked to the Rakata, a long-lost dominion that once ruled the galaxy countless millennia ago and was briefly mentioned in Andor.
Referring to an threat from beyond the galaxy adds intensity to the situation. It implies that Ahsoka's story has a much grander scale than anything previously depicted on-screen. The concept is reminiscent of a storyline from Star Wars Legends, where a group of extragalactic invaders known as the Yuuzhan Vong ravaged the galaxy. Although the Yuuzhan Vong almost made an appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it should be noted that this portrayal of the aliens is not part of the official canon. Unlike Thrawn's command bridge which showcases golden droids, the Yuuzhan Vong detest technology and instead employ organic forms. It is impossible to imagine the Yuuzhan Vong without this characteristic.
It is worth mentioning that Dave Filoni, a key figure at Lucasfilm, often draws inspiration from Star Wars Legends. In Legends, the Yuuzhan Vong's aversion to technology stemmed from a historical conflict with a technologically advanced conqueror race. Ahsoka could potentially incorporate this concept, possibly combining it with the Rakata, to create a menacing new adversary for the Star Wars universe. The potential for exploration and creativity in this regard is boundless.
Episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka will release on Disney+ on August 23.
