Alex Cooper, 29, has always been independent and likes to do things her own way.
Therefore, when she married Matt Kaplan in a luxurious ceremony in Riviera Maya, Mexico, she chose not to have her father escort her down the aisle.
As shared with Vogue in an article released on Wednesday, April 24, the host of "Call Her Daddy" expressed her initial reservations about the traditional concept of being escorted by a man during her wedding.
However, it is important to note that Cooper clarified that her decision was not a reflection of any negative feelings towards her father.
She explained that her decision not to have her father walk her down the aisle was not a reflection of their relationship, but rather a personal preference. The tradition felt outdated to her, and her mother had also walked herself down the aisle. In a way, they were creating their own tradition for the women in their family.
While Cooper's father did not play a role in the ceremony, their two goldendoodles, Harry and Bruce, were heavily involved. Cooper refers to them as "our children," highlighting the important roles they played on the special day.
Cooper shared, "They were the ring bearers. Each of them had one of our rings on their collar. When my brother asked for the rings, they had their special moment. They entered from the double doors and ran down the aisle. It was absolutely perfect."
The wedding ceremony was led by Cooper's brother, Grant, who has played a significant role in Cooper's life. Cooper expressed, "My brother was amazing. He spoke so eloquently about our relationship. It was truly touching."
Cooper explained that she and Kaplan, who is 40 years old, chose to keep their vows a secret from each other until the ceremony.
She shared, "It was a very special moment for us to express our love in front of our families and closest friends. The emotions were palpable, and there wasn't a dry eye in the room. It's a memory we will always cherish."
Cooper and Kaplan, the cofounders and co-CEOs of Trending Media Company, got engaged in March 2023. They first met on a Zoom call in July 2020.
Reflecting on their early days, the podcast host shared, "We had a few dinner dates in L.A., sitting in parking lots, pandemic-style. After the first dinner, I knew he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with."
