Fans know that JoJo Siwa recently came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Now, she is sharing more about her love life.
During an episode of "Call Her Daddy" with Alexandra Cooper, Siwa, 20, opened up about her struggles in the love department. She confessed, "I have had some really bad experiences, and now I am very scared of love."
Siwa had a series of public relationships after coming out in January 2021. During that time, she was quietly dating Kylie Prew, a former Dance Moms star. However, Siwa and Prew eventually broke up in June 2022 after being on and off.
Siwa shared that the decision to come out was expected for her. One night while on FaceTime with her girlfriend, she expressed her desire to post a certain picture publicly. Her girlfriend was supportive of the idea. Siwa made her sexuality public by posting a photo of herself wearing a shirt that said: "Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever."
After getting "90,000 comments" on her photo, Siwa found herself questioning, "What did I just do?" Despite this, she remains unfazed by the internet's reaction.
Even with her fame, Siwa confessed that she still "craves" love. Keep reading for Siwa's insights into her love life on "Call Her Daddy."
Living With a Significant Other
Siwa admitted that one of her past partners was “fully” living with her — and her parents.
Looking back at my past, I remember being 20 years old and reflecting on a 16-year-old version of myself. I couldn't believe that this younger version of me was the same age as my girlfriend when she moved in with me. It was a crazy realization because I was only nine months older than her at the time. I still don't understand how it all happened.
It's funny to think about it now, but I guess I unknowingly became what they call a "U-Haul lesbian." It was during COVID, in the summer, and everything just fell into place. She moved to California, and I found myself not wanting her to leave. What started as a short visit turned into two weeks, then four weeks, and before we knew it, eight weeks had passed. Eventually, we found ourselves living like a married couple at 17 and 16 years old, but we had to eventually go our separate ways.
Only 1 Good Ex

Siwa mentioned in an interview that she has had "a great partner" in the past, looking back at her exes. Prew is confirmed to be one of her exes, while Siwa has also been romantically linked to Avery Cyrus.
“I talked to my good partner, who is my ex, but is my good friend,” she added. “I talk to her about it all the time … I can’t find [love] again.”
Being Herself in a Relationship
Siwa, whose real name is Joelle, talked about the difference between her true self and the persona she shows the world.
She shared, "Both sides of me are always there. Sometimes I may appear as one, but really be the other. And sometimes I may look like the other, but truly be myself."
Siwa expressed the challenges she faces in relationships when she is in her natural state as Joelle, wearing sweats at home. She mentioned that in the past, partners have forgotten her humanity and treated her poorly during those times.
Siwa explained that she had a past partner say: “I like the other version of you better” or “I like that only I get this version of you.”
Some Exes Were Not Accepting of Her Job
As an influencer, Siwa is constantly active in some form or another.
Siwa compared her career to a child, always needing attention and care. She mentioned that some partners have struggled to understand her constant availability, but her work has always been a priority.
Siwa’s Relationship Status Now

JoJo Siwa, pictured above, recently shared that she is currently single. She mentioned that the only person she is talking to is her ex, as usual. Despite this, the singer did mention that she has a full roster of people she is interested in.
I had a moment where I realized I was interested in three or four girls at the same time. It was a new and enjoyable experience for me. However, I ended up running away from it due to a difficult situation in the past.
Recounting a Difficult Situation with an Ex
My last relationship was very public. Our getting together, our official relationship, and even our breakup were all very public. There were a lot of things that happened that I wish I could share with you if this microphone wasn't on. But I had to let my security team handle it," Siwa shared, without specifying which ex she was talking about.
Siwa told host Cooper that there was "trauma" after the breakup, hinting at some legal issues happening behind the scenes. At first, they both exchanged harsh words on social media before things escalated.
Siwa received a disturbing message that required her security team to handle. She expressed her realization that there are many things about her life that the world is not aware of, choosing to remain vague about the details. Even now, she continues to receive comments that highlight this lack of knowledge.
Trusting her gut feeling, Siwa suspected her ex as the sender of the message, a suspicion that was later confirmed by her security team. This experience led to a deepening of trust issues for Siwa. As a result, she now requires anyone she dates to undergo a thorough background check conducted by her security team.
Siwa Admits She Has a Type
When it comes to a significant other, Siwa is looking for someone “tall,” “older” and “masculine.”
She expressed, "I don’t care if they’re in the industry, but I would prefer not to be in the same field. I would prefer not another artist." She mentioned her preferences for physical attributes, stating, "I like dark, long hair, pretty teeth. Eye color’s, whatever it is. I like a fit girly, someone who’s down to work out with me." One of the most important things for her is discussing future plans, as she revealed, "Literally a No. 1 thing — get ready, put your seatbelt on, you’re gonna lose your s—t — one of the first things that I talk about with somebody, and I don’t come out and be like, so are you ready for kids. But when I start to talk to somebody, I will initially be like, ‘Oh, I’m really stoked to have kids, like within the next three or four years."
