The Nun 2 falls short compared to its predecessor but still shows an improvement in the overall success of the Conjuring Universe at the box office. It has achieved the highest opening weekend earnings out of all the films in this franchise since The Nun itself. In fact, it has surpassed the opening earnings of other films like The Curse of La Llorona ($26.3 million) and Annabelle Comes Home ($20.2 million) from 2019, as well as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It ($24.1 million) from 2021. However, it should be noted that the box office performance of the latter film was affected by its simultaneous release on HBO Max for the first month it was in theaters.

Despite a lack of promotion from its stars, the film has achieved this result. As the SAG-AFTRA strike persists and actors advocate for fair pay, they are abstaining from promoting any projects affected by the strike. Had the union's demands been met and the cast of Nun 2, which includes Storm Reid and Anna Popplewell along with Farmiga, Bloquet, and Aarons, been available to promote the movie, its gross would have likely been even higher.

Although The Nun 2 received a mediocre Rotten Tomatoes score of 45%, this opening weekend could still pave the way for a promising future for the Conjuring Universe. If the upcoming film, The Conjuring: Last Rites, proves to be even more commercially successful, it will further demonstrate that the franchise is on an upward trajectory, potentially leading to more sequels and spinoffs. While the outcome remains uncertain, the relatively lukewarm reception of the movie during its opening weekend is not necessarily a negative indication.
