Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 4.
Summary
Marrok's true identity was eagerly anticipated, only to be revealed as an original character brought back to life through Nightsister magic. Hints alluding to Marrok's true self included his armor, which bore a striking resemblance to that of the Eighth Brother from Star Wars Rebels.
In a similar fashion to Supreme Leader Snoke's revelation in The Last Jedi, Ahsoka's willingness to introduce new characters instead of relying on familiar ones is evident in the twist. A clue from one of the Inquisitors should have given away Marrok's true identity in Ahsoka. Episode 4 of the latest Star Wars series brought forth numerous surprising twists and exciting reveals, including the resurrection of Anakin Skywalker. Amidst the three intense lightsaber duels and Ahsoka's return to the World Between Worlds, first introduced in Star Wars Rebels, Marrok's identity reveal seemed somewhat overshadowed.
Marrok's true identity in the Ahsoka series has long been anticipated by fans. The mysterious helmet that concealed his face sparked countless theories and speculations. Some speculated that he could be Starkiller, played by Sam Witwer, as the actor was included in the additional voices credits for Ahsoka. Others believed he might be a dark side version of Ezra Bridger, manipulated by Morgan Elsbeth's Nightsister magic. However, it was ultimately revealed that Marrok was a completely original character brought back to life by Nightsister magic. Surprisingly, there was a significant clue pointing towards this twist that many overlooked.
Marrok Probably WAS Wearing The Eighth Brother's Armor
Was Marrok Ever Really An Inquisitor At All?
Marrok's armor has always been recognized for its striking resemblance to the attire worn by the Eighth Brother, an Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels. The most notable similarity lies in their remarkably similar helmets, while the rest of their armor blends seamlessly together. The Eighth Brother's demise occurred on Malachor, where he tragically fell while attempting to assassinate Darth Maul. Presumably, this tragic incident would have allowed Marrok the opportunity to acquire the fallen Inquisitor's armor. Such a scenario is even more plausible considering Maul's affiliation with the Nightsisters, as he might have brought the Inquisitor's armor back to his home planet, Dathomir, after narrowly escaping Malachor.
Marrok, rumored to be the last of Darth Vader's Inquisitors, raises eyebrows during Ahsoka's era. After all, Vader had long passed away, and his disdain for his Inquisitors meant they were wiped out at some point. One possibility is that the spirit of a Nightbrother tethered itself to the armor of the Eighth Brother and assumed the identity of Marrok. The occult powers of the Nightsisters are renowned for their ability to revive the deceased and possess others, making it plausible that Marrok and the Eighth Brother were intertwined through such dark arts. Given Maul's involvement, and assuming he somehow coerced the Inquisitor to Dathomir, this is not an implausible scenario.
The Marrok twist was a perfect fit for Ahsoka, especially considering the various theories circulating about his true identity. This reveal bears resemblance to Supreme Leader Snoke's reveal in The Last Jedi, where he was established as an independent character rather than a derivative of someone else. Given the significant impact of Nightsister magick in Ahsoka's story thus far, it is not surprising that it was employed to bring Marrok to life, potentially as a resurrected version of the Eighth Brother under Morgan Elsbeth's control. Marrok proved to be an intriguing character during his limited screen time, serving as a mere glimpse into how Morgan will likely continue to utilize her magick in her journey toward reaching Thrawn.
